When it comes to the economy, 47% of voters trust John McCain more than Barack Obama. Obama is trusted more by 41%. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey also found that, when it comes to the War in Iraq, McCain is trusted more by 49% of voters. Obama is preferred by 37%. McCain has an even larger edge at 53% to 31%--on the broader topic of National Security. These results are little changed from a month ago.

Obama enjoys a 43% to 39% advantage when it comes to government ethics and reducing corruption. McCain has a 44% to 38% advantage on taxes.

It is interesting to note that while McCain has the edge over Obama on these issues, Democrats are trusted more than Republicans on a generic basis. This ability of McCain to outperform the party label helps explain why he is competitive with the Democrats in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking poll.

(snip)

If people really are this dumb, maybe they get what they deserve. (I was going to post this is GD, since it's a general election issue, but decided to put it here to be safe.)

4. Questionable validity
Personally, I have problems with most polls refering to the general election when there's still an active and heated primary battle going on. The polls are likely being skewed to some underminable degree as a result of the heated passions and battles of the primary.

7. As soon as Ms. Flick steps down, Obama can turn the full thrust of his campaign on McCain.
He once soared in the polls against McCain - before Clinton's kitchen sink strategy - and he will again.

Edited on Fri May-30-08 02:49 PM by abernste
Obama is the nominee of our party. Supporting him has nothing to do with any cult compounds or obsessions. This poll -- even if you assume that it is skewed -- has NOTHING to do with how much people "love" Obama. It's about complete and total misinformation.

How could anyone posting on a website called "Democratic Underground" not admit that Obama is OBJECTIVELY BETTER than John McCain on economic issues for 99% of this country?

20. Way to root for a Democratic victory in November.
You might want to consider that if Democratic party grownups like Ted Kennedy, Patrick Leahy, John Edwards, Chris Dodd, Bill Bradley, John Rockefeller, Bill Richardson, Robert Reich, etc. are confident enough to give Obama their endorsements, just maybe they know what they're doing.

Or are they "cultists" too?

Please don't drag down the Dem party. You can't really be hoping that the Republicans win in November.

Peace,
sw

22. Let's hope
the debates and the media scrutiny, which Mccain hasn't had to endure yet, changes things because there is some precedence here. Right around the time of Obama's peak in this primary season, the L.A times had a similar poll with similar results.
