Ben Nelson to oppose public health plan. Guess why...
I can't believe he so openly admitted it:

Nelson's problem, he told CQ, is that the public plan would be too attractive and would hurt the private insurance plans. "At the end of the day, the public plan wins the game," Nelson said. Including a public option in a health plan, he said, was a "deal breaker."

Because it's too good for the public! Who the fuck are these guys running our government?

I bet the progressive community could raise that. Why don't we just buy them all off? It would be so much easier than trying to reason with them.

Edited on Fri May-01-09 11:50 PM by The Magistrate
The public would prefer the government plan because it would give less costly, more reliable, and wider coverage than any private insurance. So, as a bought and paid for whore of the insurance industry, he must oppose what the people want with might and main.

Any adequate reform of health care in this country must involve breaking the health insurance companies, since they are the chief problem with our system of health care. Unless they are put on a course to extinction, the problems they inflict cannot be remedied.

I also remember that candidate was an advocate of mandatory corporate controlled health care, which is the exact opposite of where we need to go. But apparently Senator Nelson would prefer that fucked up approach as well.

16. Bob Kerrey could be an ass too
He was kind of a Lieberman.

But despite Kerrey's idiosyncrasies, he at least was a real liberal on many major issues, like civil rights and health care.

35. Still, he was a jackass who favored universal health care and voted against DOMA
He was an ass. And a warmonger and a potential social security sellout. But his voting was fairly idiosyncratic, with plenty of liberal positions in there, like support for single-payer UHC, votes against welfare reform, and a vote against DOMA.

Ben Nelson is just a conservative DINO, who breaks with the Democratic Party on all the same issues that Kerrey did and then some.

I'd take Kerrey over Nelson any day.

people's best interests.

What is the point of a Democratic majority if they are not going to bring about the change that meet Americans' most critical needs like health care?

Flood his office with phone calls and faxes reminding him the We, the Little People forced Lieberman out in a primary and he's next if he doesn't stop taking the lobbyists side over ours all the time

If we all send a little money, maybe we can start to scare the shit out of these corporate tools. If not him, what other insurance company tool has an election coming up with a good potential primary challenger we can support????

40. Here's the problem: getting rid of "Democrats like Nelson" in Nebraska...
leaves one with Republicans. We simply aren't going to get a liberal Democrat elected in NE anytime soon.

Hard as this may be to believe, Nelson's recent Republican challengers would have been significantly worse.

Seriously Ben Nelson is really trying to screw up Obama's agenda.

He's as big of a threat as any republican out there and if we're relying on the likes of him, we're going to get some really watered down crappy legislation for everything from health care to anything else.

I thought that "Government" couldn't do anything right????
:wtf:

Does he have a private or public (Government) health insurance plan as a US Senator? If he has a public plan, maybe we should throw him off of it and make him get a private plan. After all, WE the taxpayers are paying for him (and HIS family) to get something the rest of us can't get. That doesn't seem very fair to me.

39. Nelson has deep ties to Insurance companies.
Nelson has deep ties to Insurance companies as shown in his Senate bio.

"Nelson enjoyed a successful career in insurance law. He has served as CEO of the Central National Insurance Group, as chief of staff and executive vice president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and as director of the Nebraska Department of Insurance."

http://bennelson.senate.gov/about/biography.cfm?pgView=printable&pgLang=english

I cringe every time he speaks out against things like this.

DINO is an accurate description.
