1. No way is Wardlow passing for a latina and Sotomayor I'm told is a diabetic
Kagan and Karlan look perfectly healthy and young. And Liberal, so does Sullivan. The hispanics might be unhappy, but I'd go with one of them. A judge will be Obama's legacy for a very long time, he should pick the best person for the job, not try to appease a certain group.

17. Go Justice Sears!!!
As a graduate of a Georgia state law school I had the opportunity to meet with Justice Sears and let me tell you I was humbled by her. She was clearly not only intelligent but her entire demeanor exhibited respect for the law but also respect for humanity. I would love to see her seriously in the running. What a double-whammy, a woman and another African-American (to balance that hateful Clarence "Coke" Thomas. I've read his opinions and he is a class A nut.

30. This president doesn't take political risks like that
there were fifteen cabinet slots. None went to an openly gay person.

He's got a ways to go on these issues - as do many people. He's a very smart guy and he listens. So I hope he evolves.

50. I don't believe anyone was passed over because they were gay
True, he did not go out of his way to pick a gay person for the sake of having a gay person in the cabinet, as he did for some other minority groups, but I don't think there was anyone who was considered and not picked because he or she was gay. I know Mary Beth Maxwell was considered for Secretary of Labor, but I think the reason she was not chosen was because labor leaders were concerned she was not well-connected enough to have the necessary clout within the Administration, not because she's gay.

56. Why do you think William White was passed over for Sec'y of the Navy?
(a sub-cab job) He was the leading contender, backed by retired military brass and by many members of Congress.

There was a lot of high profile media chatter about this.

The position ultimately went to Bush's appointee, who was asked to stay in the job by Robert Gates, the same Robert Gates who recently publicly backtracked on Obama's commitment to end DADT, unrebuked by the President.

In office. First to do so in the USSC since 1954 (first Chief Justice to die in office since 1953). Roberts was one of the pallbearers carrying his casket.

36. Just a slight suggestion, if you are going to post something like this
(and it is nice by the way) you might want to post links to profiles of each person. I've seen resent info on a few of them floating around, but most of them are unknown to me.

Personally I would like to see a minority women (unless I'm misstaken and missing something in terms of their backgrounds) it seems like none of these six would be quite enough.

59. Agreed. She's eminently qualified.
And the SCOTUS would be a better place with her on board (even leaving right-wing reaction completely out of the calculation).

That said, she won't get it. There is the little issue of her failing the CA Bar exam, even though she was dean at Stanford Law. She'd be Miersed right out of consideration.
