MoveOn's Emergency Briefing with Howard Dean on Monday
Dear MoveOn member,

Urgent update on health care: Next week, Congress will begin making the actual decisions about what'll be in a health care reform bill.

Meanwhile, conservative groups have launched a new assault on the president's proposal, including a million-dollar ad campaign claiming that health care will be rationed and "bureaucrats" will "decide the treatments you receive."1

If real people like us don't get involved in this health care fight now, it could all fall apart. So we're holding an emergency online briefing on Monday night at 9 p.m. ET with Dr. Howard Dean to make sure we're all ready for the fight ahead, called "What we all need to know to win on health care this year."

If fixing our health care system is important to you, this is an event you shouldn't miss. All you need to join in is a computer with an internet connection. Can you join us?

Here are the details:

What: Emergency Online Briefing with Dr. Howard Dean (Organized by MoveOn and Democracy for America)

When: Monday, May 4, 9 p.m. ET/ 8 CT/ 7 MT/ 6 PT

Where: MoveOn.org's web site

Click here to tell us you'll be listening in—and submit a question for Dr. Dean:

Yes! I'll be there.

No, that time doesn't work for me.

Last time Democrats tried to pass comprehensive health care reform, it failed. And it failed in part because the opposition was better organized and spread a bunch of lies that progressives weren't prepared to rebut.

It's up to us to not let that happen again. This time, we all need to be well-armed with the critical information to keep the right from blocking change. Dr. Dean will give us an inside look at the battle for real health care reform—and the secrets about what it'll take to achieve a historic victory.

With a key Senate committee meeting on Tuesday to start shaping legislation—plus the right wing's escalating attacks—this couldn't be more urgent.

I'll be part of the emergency briefing, and I really hope you can join me at this crucial moment. Please click here to RSVP:

4. signed on and
sent in a question for Dr. Dean. Was lucky enough to hear him twice @ the California Democratic Convention last week. He had the delegates on their feet and cheering last Sunday morning. He is amazing.

7. I'll be there.
A viable, well funded Non-Profit Public Option is my "Line in the Sand".

NO PUBLIC funds channeled to the Health Insurance Industry.
Those needing subsidies should be required to enroll in the Public Plan.

PLEASE, do NOT try to tell me that "America can't afford a Public HealthCare Plan" after INCREASING Military Spending and Bailing Out the Failed Wall Street Bankers.

8. We WILL get to keep our own insurance and doctors if we want to, right?
Sorry for asking, but I'm not sure how it works and I REALLY want to keep what I have now. And EVERY time a Repub. says if Obama's plan passes, we'll all have to have our doctors chosen by the govt., the Dem. strategist never rebuts it!

13. As I posted elsewhere
if people want a gold plated service, they will still be able to buy it even if there is a universal health care system. Just because coach class exists on planes, it does not exclude the airline from providing first class seats.

A universal system will help the insurance industry if they pick up their game. They need to provide a higher quality health care at an affordable cost if they want to compete. That means a better service, at lower cost if you want to keep your own plan.

A good example of this is the UK, which has an active health insurance market despite having a free at the point of use universal system. The costs of comprehensive insurance are much much lower than the costs in the US.

14. As long as "universal health care" doesn't mean...
..."universal everyone-has-to-buy-private-insurance-coverage-or-get-penalized care."

I had thought that such an "individual mandate" plan was dead when Obama won the primary over Clinton. Unfortunately, it seems that an influential bloc of Democratic congresscritters, led by Max Baucus, share Hillary's dedication to a "No Insurance Company Left Behind" plan, and will push to make that the "Democratic health care" proposal.

15. Why should my current insurance count as "a gold plated service" just

because I LIKE it and want to keep it but at a lower cost (which is what Obama said would be the case)?

Edited to change the rest of my post because I re-read yours and you DID say I'd get to keep mine at a lower cost. :)
