Sick Clinton cancels appointments

Mon May 4, 11:47 am ET
WASHINGTON (AFP) – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton canceled her appointments Monday laid low by her allergies, an official said, stressing she was not suffering from swine flu.

"She does not have the flu, just a bit under the weather," said State Department spokesman Robert Wood. "She will be back tomorrow. She is suffering from allergies."

Clinton had been due to meet with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt as well as his Armenian counterpart Edouard Nalbandian. Both meetings have been rescheduled for Tuesday.

The US top diplomat traveled to Mexico, the epicenter of the swine flu outbreak, in late March. And the White House said last week that one member of a delegation which accompanied President Barack Obama to Mexico last month had caught the A(H1N1) virus, but had recovered.

According to official US figures, there are 226 confirmed cases of swine flu across more than half of the nation's 50 states.

I hope that she's alright.

8. True, they are pretty bad already.
The other day I drove with the windows down because it was such a nice night and by the time I got home I wanted to scratch my eyes out, they itched that much.

61. I started taking a spoonful of honey every day in February
and it has not been a bad allergy season for me at all. Some sneezing and stuffiness, but no real eye trouble. I still wonder when the allergy season ends though, because I am almost out of honey. Probably I should just buy another pound and keep taking it all year. It's certainly not unpleasant medicine. It has to be local honey, but my grocer has that.

71. it's worth a shot anyway
and there is some scientific reasoning. The local honey contains the same allergens as the pollen we react to. I try to start before allergy season, because once I start rubbing on my eyes, it is all over.

OK, I have to look and see what I have at home. I don't think that it's local. it may be time to go to the farmer's market. LOL!!

80. I have tried honey before, but it wasn't effective for me.
I do swear by Zyrtec though. I take it at night because it tends to make me sleepy. It is a 24 hr. pill, so it lasts until the next night. This season has been wonderful for me. BTW, I get it at Sam's (we do not have a Cosco) and it is very reasonably priced.

I only get allergies on occasion, so I don't want to take something regularly. Although I'm a member of Sam's too and I will take a look at it just in case. Thanks for the advice.

Bill was well known for his allergies and he would be miserable sometimes. His eyes would be red and puffy, and his voice would be hoarse. He also suffers from rosacea and it's gotten worse over the years. Sometimes his nose gets as swollen as that of WC Fields. But Hil is seldom sick.

11. I know Bubba's got a MAJOR allergy problem. Didn't know about her. You could tell
when he was miserable just by looking at him with his eyes swollen, watery and mouth-breathing.

FDR was also a major sufferer and was a mouth-breather for that reason. It's also the reason the White House wasn't air-conditioned and didn't get painted very often - he couldn't stand the effect of either on his sinuses.

And I'm only a few years older than she is.

I don't know how she does it. It must help that she travels on a plane not filled with people and their viruses. I came down with a bad virus from a person on my trip over to northern Italy last spring. That was no fun, believe me. I was visiting Milan's La Scala between bouts in bathrooms all the way to the opera house...a fun thing...not!

68. Poor thing. I totally understand. My allergies have been HORRIBLE.
I've never had them this bad. I wonder if our air quality really is that bad.

She's been working very hard lately - she's due for a little rest.

82. It's a horrible allergy season this year
Even people who are normally not vulnerable are sick. Here in NYC, the joke is that you could hardly tell if you're getting the swine flu because so many people are sick with allergy-related stuff.

83. I know.
I'm in the area and many people are just miserable right now. At work it has become a joke. Every time that someone sneezes they clarify that they don't have the swine flu.

I wonder if people were so allergic in the past or have allergies become worse over the years due to environmental pollution.

:(
