He might have distant Irish ancestry, but Buchanan is far from being the type of Irish-Catholic that Joan and Chris Matthews are.

Buchanan's Great Great Great grandparents (Krack, Atzert, Mattheis, Becker and Heil) were from Germany.

Buchanan isn't even the real family name, as it was changed from Bohannon in the 1700s and I think they were Scottish.

So he's mostly German & Scottish.

Neither Matthews nor Buchanan have a clue. Fire departments do protect those jobs for family and friends. My husband's a firefighter. His department has been sued because blacks were shut out of the hiring process. It wasn't that blacks couldn't pass the test, but that the answers to the test were given to White applicants by a friend or relative on the fire department, giving them higher scores. There's no way that you can tell me NO blacks could pass the test. Either something was wrong with the test or something was wrong with the scoring. I believe they know what the problem is, but they don't want to expose the state to law suits. Can you imagine how many other minorities were rejected? The only reason we know about this story is because a white guy lost out on a job.

They would have IMMEDIATELY thrown out the test and started over again and Buchanan and Matthews wouldn't have uttered a peep - since, after all, everyone KNOWS that there would HAVE to be something WRONG with a test that NO WHITE PERSON COULD PASS!
