Conservatives are trying to frame Republican Marco Rubio as the Republican Obama
http://www.senateguru.com/

Florida: Conservatives are trying to frame Republican former state House Speaker and 2010 Senate candidate Marco Rubio as the Republican Obama:

At 37, Rubio, a fresh-faced charismatic Cuban American and Jeb Bush protégé, would seem to be the perfect recruit for statewide office. ...
That will change between now and the August 2010 primary, as the media flock to cover the most prominent conservative-versus-moderate Republican primary campaign in the country. When Republicans in Florida get to know Rubio, they will discover a dynamic speaker with an appealing biography and a deeply held conservative philosophy.

In some respects, Rubio is a little like another state legislator who ran for the U.S. Senate, Barack Obama. Like the president, Rubio points to his biography as a testament to the American dream. ...

Like Obama, Rubio can thrill an audience.

For what it's worth, it's looking like conservatives nationally are coalescing behind Rubio's candidacy as an alternative to the expected 2010 Senate candidacy of Gov. Charlie Crist, with whom conservatives are largely disappointed. With the Club for Growth getting into the mix behind Rubio, Crist doesn't have the slam dunk primary victory that some expect.

1. Marco Rubio is Jeb reincarnated. He is in Jeb's pocket.
He does the bidding of Jeb.

He is tied to the religious right here very tightly..

4. Looking beyond the facade..
...I spy a slick-a-rooney there. Think Dan Quayle.
Republicans are clueless and incapable of putting out the whole package...
They just don't get it.

5. But in order to win the White House in 2012, the ONE thing they need ....
.... is the ONE thing they have no control over.

They need the President to screw up.

Barack Obama does NOT screw up.

And what were we talking about Friday?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124169922558095847.html

The GOP might as well just save their money for 2016.

12. "Barack Obama does NOT screw up."
That's very much an open question. In fact, IMO he's screwed up several times already- and may screw up royally down the line.

Given the current circumstances the country faces (many of which aren't under his control) it's not at all difficult to see Obama ending up a one term president.

Sure, anything is possible, but so far, the man has proven to have a bit of the Midas touch and even when things go awry, he rarely gets the blame for it. Combine this the GOP's seeming lack of an ability to come up with ANYTHING, be it policy or personality, well, as I seem to be saying on a daily basis lately....

... the GOP is SO screwed.

and the corporate media's still there- still the same and waiting for the opportunity to tear the administration down.

Obama's having a honeymoon- which prior to Bill Clinton was the norm. As time goes on, and unemployment (and gas prices) rise attitudes have a way a changing. And that's assuming no major blunders.

In 1964, the GOP was in worse condition than it was today; in 1968 they regained the Whitehouse. So, a lot of these pronouncements are premature- to say the least.

19. Ha ha ha, oh wow.
The Repukes have as close as is possible to a slam dunk Senate candidate in Crist, and the Club for Shrinkage is going to try and blow it by knocking him out in a primary? Unbelievable.

9. WTH? Crist is the best thing the GOP has going for them ANYWHERE.
They'd be suicidal to try to bring down Crist, especially with some guy who won't be ready for the spotlight until 2020 maybe.

22. I predict the GOP will run him as their headliner for POTUS in 2012.
They put caribou barbie in the VP slot last time around so they are bound to pull any stunt.

This guy covers a lot of bases for them, neo-con, young, hispanic, catholic, white guy look, lived in FL and Nevada. They could do worse.

do spend alot of time trying to mold one of their own into him.

Let's see we had Sarah Palin until she proved more hateful and devisive than Obama is smart.

Then came Bobby Jindal, but he crashed and burned on live TV almost immediately after being crowned the GOP's answer to Obama.

Next up, Michael Steele, who, sadly, also crashed and burned in record time.

Then is was Eric Cantor's turn, but he quickly faded into the background with the other extremelist haters.

Now we we have Rubio. Any takers on how long he lasts?

The GOP needs to stick to the two people who best embody the character of the GOP -- Cheney and Limbaugh. They'll never find anyone else more closely aligned to their party than those two assholes.

24. The GOP doesn't understand.
Obama was never framed as the Next Big Thing for the Democratic ticket. As least, he was never framed by the Democratic Party. He just happened to be the right person who came along at the right time, and he had to work awfully darned hard to secure the Dem nomination. The GOP needs to quit mobilizing behind some one person (don't they remember what a disaster Bush II turned out to be) and just let things play out.
