7. If Dubya had given that as a reason to withhold the earlier photos what would you have said?
Edited on Wed May-13-09 12:55 PM by Better Believe It
"George W. Bush is 1000% right. Releasing the photos would endanger American soldiers and be used as a rallying cry against us"

Is that what you would have written?

Have you seen our terrorists film attacks. We've been feeding ideas for years. A couple of pictures won't do any damage that wasn't done before.

16. To show to all the naysayers how these things are cruel and unusual punishment.
Secondly, the pictures were shown about what down in Abu Ghraib...did we get any new attacks then?! I felt that damaged us enough and if you look on the net you can pull up those pictures any time.

5. I read delay. Where is "Block" coming from?
I can understand a delay, but I doubt anything can stop the eventual release.

9. Delay until the Supreme Court rules in favor of withholding the photos
They are refusing to release the photos until the Supreme Court rules (they hope in favor) of their objections to any release of the photos.

--------------------------------------------

The American Civil Liberties Union has sought the release of the photos and won a lawsuit against the U.S. government before the federal appeals court in New York. The only legal option left to the government was to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. Instead the Obama administration had earlier made the decision to end the appeals and release the photos.

Last week, the president met with his legal team and told them that he did not feel comfortable with the release of the photos because he believes their release would endanger our troops, and because he believes that the national security implications of such a release have not been fully presented to the court.

At the end of that meeting, the President directed his counsel to object to the immediate release of the photos on those grounds.

20. We'll have to read the Obama Administrations appeal to the Supreme Court
Edited on Wed May-13-09 01:22 PM by Better Believe It
But given a 5 to 4 conservative majority, I think there is a very good chance they'll rule in favor of the Obama Administration no matter how weak their arguments might be.
