Something to think about.
Anyone who doesn't think the release of the pictures would inflame the Arab world, just look at how the non-release of these pictures has inflamed people on this board.

1. We could post some of the other pics that were released the last time
and just look at them and understand that these latest ones would be most likely as bad.

I'm for releasing this shit that I won't look at, cause I'm not into that stuff, at some point quite a bit later than a week or so before Memorial Day...but that's just me.

What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (on May 25 in 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.

2. From Logical Fallacies and the Art of Debate.
Red herring. This means exactly what you think it means: introducing irrelevant facts or arguments to distract from the question at hand. For example, "The opposition claims that welfare dependency leads to higher crime rates -- but how are poor people supposed to keep a roof over their heads without our help?" It is perfectly valid to ask this question as part of the broader debate, but to pose it as a response to the argument about welfare leading to crime is fallacious. (There is also an element of ad misericordiam in this example.)

It is not fallacious, however, to argue that benefits of one kind may justify incurring costs of another kind. In the example given, concern about providing shelter for the poor would not refute concerns about crime, but one could plausibly argue that a somewhat higher level of crime is a justifiable price given the need to alleviate poverty. This is a debatable point of view, but it is no longer a fallacious one.

The term red herring is sometimes used loosely to refer to any kind of diversionary tactic, such as presenting relatively unimportant arguments that will use up the other debaters' speaking time and distract them from more important issues. This kind of a red herring is a wonderful strategic maneuver with which every debater should be familiar.

5. The upsides IMO....
In no particular order...

1. Proving to the world that we take the crimes of the previous administration seriously and we are willing to openly own up to our wrong doing and work hard to make sure it never happens again.

2. Keep the imaginations of our enemies from going wild, which could probably do just as much if not more harm to our troops than releasing the photos.

3. I can't think of a time when censoring content from adults has ever worked.

4. Let future politicians know that if they authorize torture, they won't be able to keep it a secret.
