WOW! Where to start with this Zelikow memo?
http://www.fas.org/irp/congress/2009_hr/elements.pdf

What he says we should do to war criminals is right on. Only, the war criminals I'm talking about include not only the terrorists, but the Bush/Cheney administration:

"We place war criminals on trial not just for their benefit, BUT FOR THE LARGER PURPOSES OF OUR OWN SOCIETY AND CIVILIZATION." (emphasis mine)

"Our intelligence system can continue. BUT THAT INTELLIGENCE SYSTEM SHOULD ALLOW GENUINE WAR CRIMINALS TO RECEIVE THE JUSTICE THEY DESERVE" (again, emphasis mine)

It's time to quit "treading lightly" and start using the "big stick."

3. Sorry, I followed that link from this page at RawStory
http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/05/18/secret-memo-reveals-bush-was-given-humane-legal-alternative-to-harsh-interrogation/

(snip)

"A detailed memorandum authored by a counselor to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in 2005 also reveals that the Bush Administration was offered a comprehensive alternative to its use of torture techniques. The author, Rice deputy Philip Zelikow (along with then-acting deputy secretary of defense Gordon England), asserted that the adoption of a clear and humane approach to interrogation would pay dividends for the US in the years to come.

The memo was published Thursday at Secrecy News, a blog written by secrecy expert Steven Aftergood. It can be read here in PDF form."

4. He was for it before he was against it.
This memo is three years after the fact and a year after he sullied his reputation on the 911 Commission.

This is just CYA for PZ and Rice.

He is no hero - he is just a little chicken shit.
