Is John Boehner, taking a cue from Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet)
Why does Boehner pronounce his name as "Bay-Nor", when we all know it is "Bo-ner"..

Just curious :)

The NORMAL American pronunciation mangling would indeed be "BO-ner".

But he decided to go with the more accurate (and less potentially embarrassing) "BAY-ner"

Oe (also ö) is said by making an O-shape with the mouth, but pushing through a guttural U from the back of the mouth.

32. Depends on which dialect
In Hochdeutsch, it would definitely be pronounced "Bay-ner". The "eh" in the name would change it from the standard "o-umlaut" pronunciation.

I still remember my university German.
