HALPERIN'S TAKE: Barack Obama's Best Friends
1. Cheney, Gingrich, Rush.

2. His solid approval ratings.

3. Rahm learning and employing the lessons of the Clinton administration--what worked and what didn't.

4. Michelle's stratospheric approval ratings.

5. A well-run DNC communications operation that pounds any Republican with a pulse.

6. His critics on the left.

7. A press corps still largely enamored of the narrative of “Obama=change from Bush/Cheney.”

8. A sophisticated understanding of how to go over, around, and through the filter.

9. A Zen good cop (Obama) who is, psychologically utterly unbothered by his critics, and some affable bad cops (Gibbs and Axelrod) who have a stylistically light touch with the press.

10. The comforting knowledge that he can raise $1 billion for his unchallenged re-nomination and re-election, meaning he can take some risks.

11. A congressional affairs shop (including the president, vice president, chief of staff, and former Hill aides) that has near-perfect pitch about what the political traffic will bear.

12. Frequent contact with his Chicago friends that keeps him grounded.

3. I dunno. You'd have to ask those who are trashing the left....
.... all I know is, the more far left complains, the better the President looks to the rest of the voting public.

So, as far as I'm concerned, keep on with it. ;)

6. You told the left to keep criticizing Obama, on the grounds that his approval is high
While implying that it is high in great part because of this criticism. Am I wrong?

7. The first part was a joke and the second part.........
.... is COMPLETELY wrong.

Look, (you know how the President goes "Look!" when he gets frustrated with the questioner? lol) the point the article was making was that those on the left criticizing the President are actually doing him a favor and I agree with that. If the left is mad .... and they have every right to be whether *I* agree with them or not ... then what happens is that he looks less like a lefty to those in the middle. And, ultimately, it's their votes that matter.

Nothing more, nothing less. ;)

The President's approval ratings are high because he's doing an awesome job and everyone knows it. I dont think his approval numbers are currently affected ..... or is it effected .... I'm too lazy to look that one up ..... because some on the left are mad but if this keeps up long term, it's only gonna help him.

And while HE doesn't seem overly worried about 2012 votes at the moment, *I* am ..... someone needs to be. Plouffe cant do it all alone, right? :)

8. I disagree with # 6..if the
Left is pro-activist for letting it be known what they want in a respectful manner then I'm grateful. I've written some letters to http://www.whitehouse.gov .. myself and orgs.

But, don't be acting like President Obama = bush..that will get us exactly nowhere.
