1. It's about time.
Can't wait to see what he came up with. The strip is still brilliant everyday, but I was getting bored with the sub-plots.

4. I figured he would wait a while to get a feel for this White House.
I believe he has.

6. Absolutely
It's certainly not something he could just jump into. I've been trying to guess what it will be, and I have no idea where he's going to go with it.

I loved Dan Quayle's one little feather, and Poppy as the "stealth" president.

5. No, the words above the White House thing he does with all Presidents.
He needs the icon for internal scenes.

7. It's been a while
But as I recall, the White House was Trudeau's icon for Nixon - back when old Dick was holed up there, avoiding Watergate.

I could be wrong.

8. That's true!
I didn't think of that. Words above the White House is what he did for Nixon, Ford and Carter.

I've gotten so used to the idea that Obama would have an icon that it did not occur to me that he might not.

hmm...

9. Well, I'm no Doonesbury expert
But I think he started Dubya from the outside, then he gave him a crown, then gave him the slowly deteriorating helmet.

11. At one point W was a cowboy hat - pre 9/11 I think?
I bet he had several icons - but I saw the hat one on a Doonesbury page just now.

12. You're right
He did have a cowboy hat. That may have been during the 2000 election season?

16. see the link I just posted below
the link from that page shows some of the old icons - though I do remember a crown for W - maybe when he was seen as a crown prince early on? In Aug 2001 he would have been at the "pig farm", right?

17. Ahhh
Edited on Mon May-25-09 09:49 AM by blogslut
So he went from cowboy (after selection) hat to crown to helmet:

EDIT ADD: Or maybe the crown was just a one-time thing?

Arrggh. My head hurts.

EDIT EDIT: Found another crown:

23. I always liked the cowboy hat: "All hat, no cattle", is a common
Texas expression for a fraud.

30. W's REAL icon (or avatar) was the ASTERISK, for damned good reason!
Trudeau was not going to let us forget W's illegitimacy, the one single outstanding fact of his eight-yeaar occupancy of the WH.

13. Maybe he'll use a brain
since the last pResident didn't know how to use his. Seriously, Obama is known as a thinker, someone who considers multiple angles and listens to others' opinions. I was going to say ears but that would be way too trivial for Doonesbury. If not a brain, something else to represent intellect.
