Keep the extremist right's squawking over Sotomayor in perspective
Less than a month ago, they were ready to launch an impeachment
movement over Obama's preference for spicy mustard.

We're in for a lot of noise, but not a lot of coherent argument
from their side. Seeing as how the nomination's confirmation is,
barring unforeseen circumstances, a foregone conclusion, they
will balance their desire to make the nomination rough going
against their desire to hold on to the Florida Senate seat
up for grabs next year. Pissing off the Hispanic population in
Florida is not the best way to do that, and even Frank Luntz
will know enough to tell them that.

Besides, beneath all the shouting from the right, the current
balance of the Supreme Court will NOT change. Don't think for
a second that the Far Right has forgotten this. This is one
battle they have already written off except for whatever
propaganda mileage they can get out of it. When it comes time
to replace Scalia or (dare we hope?) Thomas, THAT'S when
they'll bring out their WMDs. This is just a warm-up.

1. Agreed. Now they're simply firing up their base and tossing out sound bytes to the masses
Which they'll use later when they are really fighting a nomination in earnest. Sotomayer is not the one they really desire to block.

3. If Scalia's heart decides to go kablooie in the next 3 years, they'll go bananas.
Give him bacon. Lots.

5. Of course, the heart is only a hydraulic pump. What he doesn't have is a limbic system.
That's the part of the brain responsible for empathy and emotions.

6. For some reason I seem to be taking all the squaking very personally. Usually
I can let their desperation slide off like water off a duck's back. I seem to be very sensitive to GOP bull**** these days.

7. GOP bullshit these days is like Nazi propaganda in Germany in the 1920s
It's dangerous if left unchecked or ignored, like an infection, but if called to task and immediately shown
up for the phony patriotism it is, it should wither. Ignorance is their friend, knowledge and awareness are
their mortal enemies.

12. Wise words. I guess I just wish the neocons had been shot down as soon as they
spoke.

8. I love watching them get all nutsoid, with their faces turning red and their heads spinning.
They were geared up for a fight, no matter WHO the nominee would turn out to be.

They are not giving up one ounce of power without a fight, and it's killing them that they don't have the power to do much of anything.

I just love it.

10. yep. this is the beauty of it. they aren't going quietly into the night. their exile...
is a noisy affair with them whining and every so often posturing like they still have power. Then they get face slapped proving they can't do a damn thing about it....which only makes them angrier.

Couldn't happen to a finer group. STUPID MOTHERFUKERS. I will never forgive or forget the way the ran roughshod over Democrats in 2001 through 2006...but especially in the earlier days of Bush when they were shutting power off to conference rooms, not telling Dems about meetings they were having, etc. etc. FUCK THEM.
