Encouragement to write, if you haven't, the president about DADT
YES we can get the president to listen to Lt. Dan Choi's short rally speech. CNN just ran a story on him and his appeal to the president. Let's take ACTION! I just wrote the president and asked him, despite his request that Congress do it, to use his power as Commander-In-Chief of the military to strike down the injustice and shame that is "Don't Ask Don't Tell", which makes US soldiers LIE about their sexuality which causes division and a negative attitude that being GLBT is something that should be hidden away in secrecy. I also referenced the speech Dan made.

Won't you write with me today - so that hundreds of us speak out with Dan, today, so that the president is told that many people have written or called about this man's plea to the president?

2. the journey of a 10000 miles begins with a step, or something like that... ha
anyhow, thank YOU for doing that. I'm not in the military but I know men in the military who hide their sexuality - it breeds a level of shame which is, well, shameful! That carries over into the civilian populace when these men interact with GLBT people. We can't expect people to be fair in business, civil issues, and respectful of everyone's differences if they're told that being Gay is something to be stuck away in a closet and not spoken of.

So, I spent the couple minutes, like you said, writing the president about Dan's plight, and a few minutes making these posts. I hope many more will today, whether they are allies of GLBT or GLBT themselves.

3. exactly
How can we expect the private sector to not discriminate when the largest public sector employer in the country forces us to lie, and if we don't, fires us?

It defies common sense.
