Senator Pat Roberts is voting against Sotomayor
Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts has made up his mind on Judge Sonia Sotomayor.

Put him down as a "no." (And he may be the first GOPer to go on record opposing her).

Chris Stigall on KCMO-AM asked Roberts this morning whether he feels compelled to support the Supreme Court nominee as a way of avoiding the tag of "bigot."

Responded Roberts: "I'm a Marine and nothin’ much scares me. That's not going to be a consideration in my vote."

Roberts also said:

"I voted no in 1998 (when she was up for the Appeals Court). I did not feel that she was appropriate on the Appeals Court. Since that time she has made statements on the role of the Appeals Court that I think is improper and incorrect.

"I think that we should be judging people not on race and gender or background or ethnicity or a very telling story. There are a lot of peope that have that. My goodness, Clarence Thomas had that, and look what he got.

"I think that you should be judging people on their qualifications, whether they will follow the Constitution, and if they do that and they follow the Constitution and they don’t make laws, they simply follow the Constitution and interpret it, I will support them.

"With all due respect to the nominee and nothing personal, I do not plan to vote for her.”

9. He can judge her by any standard he wants
and can vote any way he likes. We don't need his vote. Besides, qualifications aren't everything when it comes to the SC.

6. This asswipe is an absolutely stunning example of what passes for intellect
and integrity in today's GOP. Roberts actively shielded the Bush administration criminals from investigation of their incompetence and extra-constitutional forays into "the dark side". But, of course, we should listen respectfully to his judgement of Sotomayor's qualifications?

"Kiss my ass" is about as respectful as I can manage.

8. Ha!
I was all set to be infuriated and I just KNEW the continuation of your subject line was going to be "in Kansas!". Am I a bit too defensive? He is, though, a serious richard.

11. Gee what are the census figures for Kansas?
6.1% are Black
8.8% are Hispanic or Latino

Election Results
41% Obama
57% McCain

36% Slattery (D)
60% Roberts (R)

I guess he would be the perfect spokesperson for the Republican Party. He can say a lot of stupid things and not get into trouble in Kansas. I say he should continue being an ass so he can smear other Republican elected officials all across the USA.

Below are the districts in Kansas that are very very Republican. District 1 went 82/13 Republican and District 4 went 64/32 in the Congressional race. Don't know how Obama did himself as a district analysis.
