OOOH! Two snaps UP, girlfriend! RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho on what's "good enough" for Obama

WASHINGTON, May 30 (UPI) -- GOP officials chided U.S. President Barack Obama for attending a Broadway play Saturday but the White House said Obama was keeping a campaign promise.

In a posting on its Web site, the Republican National Committee contrasted the Obamas evening out with General Motors Corp.'s fight for survival and the broader economic turndown.

"As President Obama prepares to wing into Manhattan's theater district on Air Force One to take in a Broadway show, GM is preparing to file bankruptcy and families across America continue to struggle to pay their bills," the GOP said. "Have a great Saturday evening -- even if you're not jetting off somewhere at taxpayer expense."

RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho said if Obama wanted to go to the theater, "isn't the Presidential box at the Kennedy Center good enough?," Politico reported.

The nerve of these people! Not a peep from them about Bush's near one month vacation right before 9/11.

Weak.

11. Bush, 12/20/06: "Go Shopping More"
With Recession Looming, Bush Tells America To ‘Go Shopping More’

By Amanda Terkel on Dec 20th, 2006 at 12:56 pm

Today, President Bush held a news conference where he discussed the “way forward” for the economy in 2007. Renowned Morgan Stanley economist Steven Roach says the the “odds of the U.S. economy tipping into recession are about 40 to 45 per cent.” New York Times columnist Paul Krugman notes that “the odds are very good — maybe 2 to 1,” that the U.S. will teeter toward a recession in 2007. Bush’s solution? “Go shopping more.”

Similarly, after the Sept. 11 attacks, Bush simply asked Americans for their “continued participation and confidence in the American economy.” From the Internationald Herald Tribune, 1/14/03:

Bush did nothing to mobilize public opinion to accept the sacrifices that war implies — the first thing a leader would do. Tax cuts could go ahead as planned, and energy saving was dismissed out of hand. “Go shopping” was the administration’s message.

Bush added today that 2007 will “require difficult choices and additional sacrifices” from the American people.

16. What utter hypocrites. Hasn't the GOP been saying "Let the automakers fail"?
They don't give a damn about GM, but if it's something they think they can stick to the president, they'll try anything. I think most reasonable Americans are excited when we see this young, vibrant first couple out on a date.

20. We have a president that has a taste for refined arts...
and that is a problem w/the RW?

The only thing that bush showed any possible relation to "refinement" were his $1000+ suits, which were filled w/an an empty shell of a man that couldn't find a bologna sandwich at the bottom of a brown paper bag.

This president, as others before him, deserves to have some "time off", and a relaxing date w/his wife. I'm happy to see the president decided to take in a Broadway show, as opposed to "clearing brush" or putting in a new outhouse as in some cheap Western flick.

:hi:
