Arizona fiction book recommendations
I posted these in the fiction forum, but they were both good reads and both take place in Arizona, so I thought I'd post them here for anyone who enjoys reading, particularly about Arizona.

1) "Wet Desert," by Gary Hansen. What a ride! Highly recommend it if you can find it. (I'm an avid reader and had never run across it until it showed up in my kindle recommendations; it's available in paperback, but it's also only $0.99 on kindle.)

From Amazon:
"Grant Stevens, a mid-level manager for the Bureau of Reclamation, only wanted to build dams. He never imagined he would be swept into a desperate race against an environmental terrorist bent on restoring the Colorado River by blowing up the dams. Left temporarily in charge of the Bureau, Grant must react when the first dam is attacked. He faces the unthinkable task of mitigating the massive flood roaring down the Colorado. The flood will eventually threaten the mighty Hoover Dam, and if Hoover fails, the other dams downstream will fall like dominos. Working with the FBI, Grant uses his engineering skills, river knowledge, and plenty of gut instinct in an attempt to outmaneuver the terrorist. The chase will lead all the way downstream to the Gulf of California in a cat and mouse game where the stakes are high and the potential for destruction is enormous.

Whitney Award Finalist. Compared to Tom Clancey by Meridian Magazine."

2) "Big Lake," by Nick Russell. Enjoyable novel about the sheriff of a fictional small town up on the Rim near Show Low. He spends the book investigating an armored car robbery in the Salt River Canyon in which his brother-in-law was killed. Lots of familiar territory for anyone who's driven out US60 East.

---------------------------

A little changeup from the usual Arizona discussions in this forum, but some fun reading for those who love the scenery around this state.

2. The Monkey Wrench Gang
Easily Abbey's most famous fiction work, the novel concerns
the use of sabotage to protest environmentally damaging activities
in the American Southwest, and was so influential that the term
"monkeywrench" has come to mean, besides sabotage and damage to
machines, any sabotage, activism, law-making, or law-breaking to
preserve wilderness, wild spaces and ecosystems.
