IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - For Michelle Macchiaroli, the attraction to football is simple.
"I just wanna hit people," the Santa Ana police officer said with a grin.
That's just what she got to do Saturday, when she and six other women tried out for the Orange County Breakers of the fledgling National Women's Football Association. Macchiaroli and the other six made it, but whether they'll get to play a down for the Breakers remains to be seen. So far the team has no stadium, no training facilities and is 28 players short of fielding a full NWFA roster.

At 5-feet-2 and 115 pounds, Tessier looked a bit on the small side, but some of the men who turned out to cheer the women on said football is about more than just size.
"I think the agility, flexibility and higher tolerance for pain that women have will definitely be beneficial for them to play football," said Jason Rogers, a friend of Jackson's.
