Poll question: Best choice to replace Feinstein in 06
Here are some of the more popular figures in the state who are doing a lot to make the state and country a better place to live in. Any of these could easily win the general election in 2006. Which would you prefer to see in the Senate?

7. Her staff has told us, several times, she's not running for re-election.
Edited on Thu May-20-04 02:41 PM by genius
I and a lot of others have worked to get her to filibuster right-wingers and her office's reaction is often that she's not running for re-election and she doesn't care how we feel. Boxer's easy when it comes to opposing Bush's right-wing nominees. Dianne takes a lot of work. Her office acknowledged that 90% of the calls were coming in against the IWPR and she voted for it.

20. There were a number of postings around the time of the election
in the D.U. and there were some links - as I recall. I'm not in San Francisco so I just looked at the postings out of casual interest. You may want to check the D.U. archives. If, it turns out he didn't contribute to Bush, that would be important information and would counter a lot of what was said in the D.U. about him.

Sorry, I'm not exactly the gracious grammarian at 2 am.

I actually thought GN was a blow-dried, yuppie prick before the election. I told everyone I knew in SF to vote for Matt Gonzalez, the green party candidate... Yes, San Francisco may be an alternate universe, but that's one of the things that's good about it. It's not like the current, "normal" universe is anything to write home about.

But I have to give Newsom props for getting out front and center on the gay marriage thing. He may be a yuppie, but I think his heart is in the right place, and he's one to watch.

She gets protested practically everywhere she goes in Orange County. Her voting record is really mixed. She supported the $87 billion and, despite a resolution from her county committee telling her to support the Department of Peace bill, she won't. She's also not backing a voter-verifiable paper trail.

Her alliance with defense contractors is the last thing we need. My issue with her is that her number one assistant supports most of the Republican platform.

35. At the rally where I saw that, I and others tried to re-focus the news.
I got some people to start praising Loretta and we stood between the protestors and the news cameras. The protestors are a problem when she speaks and even her office will admit that. Anyone having her speak at their rally should be aware of it. The news did get lots of footage of the protestors but the rally was barely covered so it didn't matter.

Enough of these idiot wealthy actors from the myopic little villages of Malibu and Brentwood Hills, OK? What about a democrat that can win on political position and experience? What about a democrat that can find Humboldt County on a map? The last person on earth I would vote for to replace DiFi would be a republican, but I consider actors to be as bad and I will never vote for one, unless you can get Eastwood to call himself a democrat and run! We have REAL problems that cannot be written out of the script as AS thinks, we need someone with real governmental experience.

Julia Roberts?

I don't care how she votes, I think she represents all that is horribly self-absorbed, mediocre and overrated about Hollywood. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but she bugs the absolute livin' crap out of me. Surely there must be more intelligent folks ---with integrity, as opposed to a cheez-whiz padded resume-- in the film industry who would make the cut. Half the cast of the Big Lebowski, for example-- Jeff Bridges? Julianne Moore? Steve Buscemi, mayhaps?

How about Susan Sarandon? Elect her, it's two for one, like the Clintons. Tim Robbins comes along, too.

Ashley Judd. I can think of several thousand reasons I wouldn't mind seeing her on tv more.

Too bad Johnny Depp left the country. (Maybe he knows something we don't.)

I've got it! Harry Shearer!

But for gott seeeeks. Not Julia Roberts. Please.

blow-dried yuppie from the Marina (which represents a significant population that has somewhat overrun the once diverse and culturally interesting city of San Francisco) who wanted to get into the mayor's office on the backs of the homeless. Party, green or otherwise, didn't enter into it.

But I have more respect for the man now, and I understand that SF politics aren't the same as national politics. I wish we had more Dems. of national stature with the bravery that Gavin Newsom has displayed.
