There is an article out today on the underage tanning law they are trying to pass in California and this quote from GOP Assemblyman Ray Haynes is in the article:
"If this bill passes it proves there's no part of somebody's life this Legislature won't stick its nose into," said GOP Assemblyman Ray Haynes.http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=32&u=/ap/20040521/ap_on_re_us/tanning_boothsOn another issue, Haynes said almost exactly the opposite, that those teens who he wants have the legal right to go to a tanning salon, should be prevented from voting because they are too easily deceived:
Assemblyman Ray Haynes told the San Francisco Chronicle: “There’s a reason why 14-year-olds and 16-year-olds don’t vote. They are not adults. They are not mature enough. They are easily deceived by political charlatans.”A quick Google search shows that Haynes himself seems to want the government to legislate against gay marriage, against abortion, against sex education, against the right to die with dignity, against porn, against privacy for California consumers, and he supports spam and is against the ACLU (civil rights.) Here is one article on his bizarre voting habits:
http://inlandantiempire.org/archive/000815.phpHe talks about government sticking their nose in to people's lives, yet has actually spent much of his political career fighting to have the government stick their noses into people's private lives.
Haynes wants to completely legislate what every Californian can do in their private life, yet he has no problem complaining about the government sticking their nose in people's lives when it comes to corporation's rights to make money selling dangerous cosmetic procedures to teens.
Does anyone in his district know if there is any chance he will either be beaten in an upcoming election or term limited out of the assembly?
