Poll question: Best Chicago Delicacy
What is the best food to come from Chicago? Got any tips on good local places? I'm a big fan of the Greek restaurant Artopolis in Greek town. Great food, even better prices, and a wonderful atmosphere. A great place for those on a budget like myself.

17. It was a kind of novelty food
Fried dough, cinnamon, sugar, that sort of thing. No idea why it was called Road Worms, but very tasty.

3. Get yourself a good beef sandwich.
One must be picky, though. Eat at a place that uses Scalas Beef.
Load it up with sweet and/or hot peppers, if you like.

8. Oddly enough, the so-called best pizza joints, e.g. Ginos East
and others are not the best in town. Ya gotta go out to the neighborhood establishments

14. Agreed. My current favorite is the Home Run Inn on Archer.
I love the way the cut it up into those small pieces. Before you know it, the pie is gone. Fortunately I have a lot of friends in the city and they know how much I enjoy good food. It works out great for me as they try to out do each other.

19. I know Chicago is a big pizza town but
I actually much prefer New York Style. Chicago pizza is too heavy for me.

18. I'm partial to ribs
Gale Street Inn has the best, but I haven't trucked that far north for a long time, plus, there's often a substantial wait. I like Greek food, too, and was just depressed to see that Papagus closed in the Michigan Ave. area -- they served a macaroni and artichoke dish which was to die for. Dianah's (sp?)left Greek Town to move to the theatre area on Halstead, by Royal George, and then that closed -- did it reemerge anywhere, do you know? That used to be my favorite.

26. Was it the late, great Mike Royko who started the rib cook-off
in Grant Park? I don't think they do it anymore, but there were LOTS of great Chicago rib places. (Still are, probably, but I'm not eating much meat lately.....)

24. Palermo's on 63rd
for Pizza. The best on the Southwest side of Chicago. For Italian ice, Mario's on Taylor street is a must. Then across the street from Mario's to Al's for a beef. YUM!
