Southern Illinoisan: Ron Gidwitz Announces Plan to Run for Governor
http://www.southernillinoisan.com/articles/2005/01/25/top/doc41f64c47103d2892118398.txt

"SPRINGFIELD -- One more name has been tossed into the pool as a potential Republican candidate for governor.

Ron Gidwitz of Chicago, former president, CEO and board member of Helene Curtis (a Fortune 500 company) and founder of Students First Illinois education foundation, said he has every intention of running for governor in 2006.

He announced his plans at a high school opening on Sunday in Robinson. He said he will officially announce his candidacy for governor sometime this summer.

"I plan to run unless there's some fatal flaw," he said."

Out of Rausch, LaHood and this guy, I really want this Gidwitz guy. A Chicago vs. Chicago race would EASILY go to Blago. Especially if the Illinois Association of School Administrators gets behind Blago instead of Godwitz.

5. well that family has some really bad anti-labor practices.
A guy I know who worked there a while back said Alberto-Culver had a pension plan that no one ever got because everyone would get fired for some reason or other about 1 or 2 months before vesting. The family is very big in the society pages, or at least it was.

2. He'll never make it out of the GOP primary.
Other than malpractice caps and living in Springfield his stands sound like Rod's.

4. Yeah, sadly, I don't see him going far
He would fail even more if he did get to go up against Rod. We would get to concentrate on Weller, Hyde (or who ever runs if he retires), Johnson and keeping Bean in office. A guy can dream.
