David Loebsack Announces His Candidacy for U.S. House District 2
(Mt. Vernon) – Today David Loebsack, a Democrat and long-time Cornell College
educator, announced his candidacy for congress in Iowa’s second congressional
district.
Loebsack stated “It is time for real change in Iowa’s second district. After
traveling the district for several months, I have found that Iowans from all
parties as well as independents believe that 30 years is more than enough time
in office for any politician.
And I have found that folks believe it is time for a representative who will
consistently work for the average citizens of the district and provide the
leadership necessary on the issues that matter most to Iowans.
Those are critical issues like health care, jobs that won’t be exported, social
security and pensions that will be there when hardworking Iowans retire,
education for the 21st century, and a healthy environment. In the rural areas
of the district we need to work to rejuvenate communities that have been
devastated by the increased costs of production and the concentration of
agribusiness.”
Loebsack noted the primary reasons for change are the failure of the
Republican-controlled national government over the past several years to
provide
the prosperity promised by George Bush and the loss of American influence
abroad
as a result of George Bush’s unilateral approach to the rest of the world.
“It is time to replace the party in control in the Congress with
representatives
who will work constructively at home and abroad to provide opportunities for
those who have suffered as a result of the current administration’s policies.”
Although Loebsack’s teaching expertise is in the field of international
politics, he has learned through his many years as a community educator and
activist that the vast majority of Iowans want a representative who will lead
on
pocket book issues and the environment and who will fight every day for those
issues in Washington, D.C.
Loebsack stated, “We need leadership in congress that will not simply offer
more tax cuts for the rich and massive budget and trade deficits as far as the
eye can see. To provide hope and real change in America and in Iowa’s second
district, we need to clean house and send a new representative who will work
everyday for the interests of the people of the second district.”
