People I'd least expect to support Fallon are lining up for him!
I went to a Fallon appearance yesterday at some folks house who I would swear had told me they were Blouin supporters two monyhs ago. Last night I was placing signs out for supervisor candidates. One of the people I called said they like me to put their Fallon sign out for them also. I almost dropped the phone.
And this morning I ran into a friend who asked if I was going to the Culver event today. It was the first I'd heard of it, so I had no time in my schedule. He said he wasn't going either. He and his wife were voting Fallon. I was really shocked.
I am seeing many many Fallon signs in the area, a few (very few) Blouin's and I can't remember seeing any Culver signs at all.
If Culver wins I hope he does a much better job of campaigning against Nussle than he has from what I have observed. Maybe I am wrong but Culver hasn't seemed to 'step-up' and really get after it. As I sit here I could give a pretty good idea how Fallon and Blouin stand on various issues. Culver I have a general idea but no specifics. This is even after listening to half his appearance on public radio. I never heard Fallon on there and only a snippet of Blouin.
Don't want to sound like I am anti-Culver, because if he wins I am behind him 100%. I just feel he can not beat Nussle running a campaign where he blends into the background.

1. The Attack Ads
Are not helping Blouin or Culver. I think it's sending people to the Fallon camp.

2. Right you are
I know that is one HUGE thing that made my mind up about who to give my vote to. Plus I admire Fallon's guts and determination, running a true "power to the people" campaign.

3. I have heard a lot of negative comments about the negative ads
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 07:31 PM by pstans
People say they are strongly considering Fallon after all of the negative ads here in Marshalltown. I have been canvassing every night the past 10 days and hear this 4-5 times each night.

4. My gut reaction
If Fallon was even close to stiking distance then Culver and Blouin would be going negative against him. Ignoring him makes me assume Fallon is probably quite a ways back of the pack.

5. Fallon would attack them as well.
I met him and told him that I was torn between him and Culver. I asked what the difference was between him and Culver, and he said (in a somewhat snarly tone), "I have a plan."

That sealed the deal -- Culver it was.

And look now -- Culver has a plan.

6. Fallon hasn't held back in telling you how he differs on the issues
But he hasn't ran negative ads and isn't doing personal attacks.

12. Fallon has done a good job of attacking the position or the performance
and not the person.

I don't believe that any campaign can be a love-fest, there will always be attacks.

13. I find it hard to believe
Ed gave an answer that was "in a snarly tone". He must have been having a rough day. He has been nothing but cordial in every event or interaction I have had with him.

14. It was definitely cold.
It seemed odd, and very off-putting.

I've always been uncomfortable in Ed Fallon's presence. I don't know if our personalities just don't click or what, and that could always be the case, but I just couldn't connect with him when I talked to him. He seemed awkward.

8. Is that the same poll that's been going around for 2 weeks?
Because I've heard once or twice that the polling people have a shoddy record, plus, as a Fallon supporter I plain just don't like it.
Back on topic, Fallon seems to have the least publicity and support in my area (Floyd Co.), with most people seeming to break for Culver. I think I saw his commercial for the first time last week, and I've been seeing commercials for the other two for months. That doesn't stop me from telling everybody how Fallon is the best for the job though, and these tales of areas where everybody supports Fallon give me hope.

9. Personally, I don't cherry pick polls to suit my beliefs,
believe them when I like the results, and ignore them when I don't like the results. I am not even voting in this race, I just think it is always a good idea to try and anticipate how our candidates are going to do in the general election. If you have one with Fallon outperforming the other candidates, post it. Something tells me that such a poll doesn't exist.

You are right, pollster can be right and they can be wrong. Rasmussen was pretty accurate in 05, for whatever that is worth.

15. I didn't mean to imply that I "cherry pick" polls
I've resigned myself to the fact that there aren't any reputable polls that put Fallon where I want him. I was merely saying that that particular poll didn't make me happy, but I'm not ignoring it. Republicans pick and choose what they believe based on what they like, I can take a few not so nice truths.

17. I find this woman's quote fascinating:
"Poll participant Ilene Sheeder, 70, from rural Perry, is still trying to decide between Blouin and Culver. "I like Blouin because he is not for abortion, and I like Culver because he's for capital punishment," said Sheeder, a Democrat."

18. That's great...
"I like Blouin because he is for corporate welfare for big businesses myself. I was going to vote for Fallon, but he said that he couldn't be bought, and I like buy-a-bility in a candidate" said Seth, a Democrat.

I guess it takes all kinds, right?

10. FWIW - I don't know that Culver worked to get yard signs out
At least they never called us to ask for us to put one up. I think their focus was elsewhere. I'm certain that in the general yard signs and lit will be more forthcoming.
