When I ran for State Central Committee, I made a promise to keep folks updated as much as possible. In that spirit...
Today I traveled to Des Moines for a Coordinated Campaign training session. The young foot soldiers were in attendance along with several county chairs, IDP folks and the State Central Committee members. It was a very informative meeting -- so much so that I wish it could be done on a smaller scale in each county. One of the especially interesting segments was provided by the various Outreach programs. There were live demonstrations of what it is like to fill out a voter registration form while sight impaired (and with other disabilities). The point was to have all of us stop and think when we are approaching individuals with disabilities, of a different race/culture, etc. (Really informative and I hear that Johnson Co. is going to have the group come -- you'll have to let me know how it goes on the County level.)
Chairs and SCC members were given some one-on-one time with the new County person and Field Organizer. It is hoped having this time before these new people come into our areas will allow us better communication and more effectiveness. All of the ending comments were positive.
The Coordinated Campaign is going to be on a smaller scale than in 2004 (of course: no pres election), but it actually seems to be much better organized.
In other news, Des Moines traffic/road construction sucks and I believe half of Iowa's deer are road kill along I-80.
(Are these updates of interest to any of you?)
