Selden Spencer made it to Warner's finalist round
Hey Folks, we did it!

We got Selden Spencer to the finalist round in Mark Warner's contest. Dr. Spencer was the only candidate from Iowa that made it to the final round. He is up against several Senate candidates and races more closely watched, so we need your help.

You can now vote in the final round for Selden Spencer, one of 20 candidates in the "West" category. The top five in the West will receive $5000 in a cash contribution, and the top vote-getter wins a fundraiser with Mark Warner.

You can vote for only Selden Spencer in the West, which would help him more than voting for five candidates. It would also help if you "post" your vote with a short, positive comment about the Spencer campaign.

To vote, go to: http://www.forwardtogetherpac.com/mapchanger

If you have already registered for the nomination round, you just need your username and password to vote. If you are not already registered with Warner's PAC, you need to go to the lower-right side of the page and give them a new username, password and e-mail address. They will then send you an e-mail with a link that will allow you to vote. But you can opt not to receive any other e-mails from Warner if you wish.

Please try to vote as soon as you can, as they are updating the voting daily, and we want to jump out ahead to get attention.

Also, please pass the word along and help bring in $5000 for Dr. Spencer's campaign!

This is the dark horse race in Iowa. Dr. Spencer is a terrific but unknown candidate that stepped up to the plate to challenge the biggest empty suit in Washington, Tom Latham. Latham brags about his earmarking prowess as a member of the Appropriations Committee, but besides that he is nothing but a far-right conservative with strong ties to Republican corruption. Latham and his wife have taken luxury trips paid for by special interests to Italy, France and other locations, and he has accepted money from Tom DeLay's PAC, Jack Abramoff, Bob Ney, and others connected to House scandals. The Iowa Fourth District is one of only 25 Republican-held seats in the U.S. House that is in a Democratic-leaning voting district (PVI = +0.4 D), and members of the district are looking for change. Dr. Spencer is a solid progressive beyond reproach. Don't put all your money on a few favored races, because this is one of the seats we need to win if we are to take the House!

1. Tough Competition
They have not done any tallying yet, but from the ballots you can read (you can post your ballot with your name, if you want), it looks like the Senate candidates and those from big states (Texas, California, etc.) are going to be tough to beat.

Please vote for Iowa's only candidate, and pass the word along to any of your e-mail lists or other posting sites.

It does look like some of the DUers are voting. Thanks!

2. Good luck to you Tom
I voted before reading your post, unfortunately, so I ended up posting all ten votes. Sorry

Did you make it over to the Progressive Patriot site to cast your vote for Culver?

3. Sure, I voted for Culver
We are a small state, and it is tough for us to compete in such contests. So, we need to stick together.

Even a runner-up can benefit from these Presidential PACs. They want to support Iowa candidates, for obvious reasons, so if an Iowan makes a good showing but does not win, they sometimes still get some PAC money and a personal appearance for fund raising.

By the way, if you have an e-mail list of like-minded friends, it really does pay to encourage people to vote in these contests. There was a small but significant effort for Rich Olive, Democratic candidate for state Senate against Iverson (now probably Kurtenbach), and he won $5000 from Feingold's PAC. For a challenger in a state Senate contest, $5000 is pretty good.

County chairs should also be encouraged to use their e-mail lists in such contests. They bring attention as well as dollars.

5. Not in top 5, but close
The top 5 in each division (east and west) are listed, but no other names are listed in the standings. The top 5 in each category get $5000 each, and those close get some recognition, I am sure.

Based on the posted ballots, I would say the Selden Spencer is near Colleen Rowley, who is listed as number 5. A last minute push for Spencer could put him in the top 5!

Voting closes June 29, so you have a couple of days left. If you have not yet voted, please do so. And pass the word.

Thanks.

6. Last minute push
The last day to vote is tomorrow, June 29. Dr. Spencer is not in the top 5, but I have been watching the posted ballots, and I think we are close. We are making a last minute push to get the vote out, so please vote if you have not, and send an e-mail to any and all of your contacts.

There have been some reported problems with voting. It may be due to certain browsers. Firefox works fine, but there have been some difficulties using Explorer. Please try again.

Thanks.

7. Kick and plea....
If you haven't already, please go vote for Selden Spencer. Endorsements at this stage would mean a lot in the uphill battle Dr Spencer has in front of him. Let's get some attention (and some money) on this race.

Please?!
