Fire reported under the Gilmore Bridge

Boston and Cambridge firefighters are responding to reports of a smoky fire underneath the Gilmore Bridge, near the Boston Sand & Gravel Co. and Bunker Hill Community College.

The base of the bridge has caught fire. The alarm was sounded a few minutes before noon, said Steve MacDonald, a Boston Fire Department spokesman.

Traffic is being detoured around the area, MacDonald said.

Fire On Boston/Cambridge Line Shuts Down Gilmore Bridge, Commuter Rail Service



BOSTON (CBS) – Firefighters were battling a raging fire under the Gilmore Bridge at the Boston/Cambridge line on Friday. The fire started around 11:30 a.m.

Flames and smoke could be seen from several miles away.

Traffic was being diverted around the bridge. Commuter Rail service, which runs under the bridge, had to be shut down in both directions while firefighters knocked down the flames.
