I looked up ethnicity stats for Springfield, since it's the farthest metro area from Boston. It has a non-white majority, quite a bit more diverse than I had expected - and definitely a deflator for the argument put forth in the thread linked originally that Mass. is a lily-white state.

2. I lived in Springfield for 16 years

My kids went to public school there...around 85% "minority" population in the general ed high school (there are something like 46 schools in the system...specialized high schools for tech, the arts, etc, recruited like colleges). My oldest son went to Springfield High School of Science and Technology, which was mostly minority geeks, but more white than the general population. "Sci-Tech's" minority population was largely Asian...there is a very large Vietnamese population in Springfield. But it is mostly Hispanic, then black.
