Michigan Dems propose raising minimum wage to 7.15
Saw this in my local paper over the weekend. I can only applaud the Dems for this being their first public stand coming out of the starting gate. This, folks, is what made the Democratic party great, it's willingness to stand with the workers against the government, corporations and special interests.

I cannot think of a better start to the legislative session than to put the Republicans on notice, "We area here for the PEOPLE."

I showed the newspaper article entitled, "Dems seek $7.15 minimum wage" to all my kids and said, "THIS is why I am a Democrat."

I think they GET IT in Lansing. No more Republican-lite. We are Democrats, and we always stand with the common people, not the corporations.

1. I agree
The minimum wage was about $12 per hour 35 years ago in today's dollars. Are the corporations using that savings to "create more jobs"? If so, then it's a GOOD THING, otherwise, we'd ALL be unemployed.

2. That $5.15's worth right now is about $4.65

Since Clinton managed to "end welfare as we know it" I'd say it past time we start paying people enough to live on.

It has not been raised in eight years. How much have our legislators raised THEIR OWN pay in that amount of time? PLENTY! And not just another two dollars an hour at a time, either.

4. Mandatory Living wages are the way to go
Tie raises to the rate of inflation, plus 1%. If inflation goes up, wages must also plus that one percent keeps the workers one step ahead of the game.
