Whoever it is, I feel like donating generously to his or her campaign.

Did anyone else catch this guy and his wife on CNN?

1. Aren't you glad they're Republicans.

2. No idea of the Democrat
From what I read, the district is solidly Republican. However, the incumbent is opposed to Ramsey and said he would consider supporting the Democrat. At this time, he plans to endorse someone else in the GOP Primary.

4. Lots of folks
He'll play the dead child card in conjunction with that old chestnut "belief in gawd/strong-faith-kept-my-family-together-even-though-the-evil-judges-and-lawyers-were-against-us". The conservative christian right controls the western half of Michigan, and has a lot of $$$ to throw around. He'll probably do well in his race.

7. I don't think the party machine will let Ramsey win the primary
the right wingers are usually too well organized to let one of their embarassing members mess things up so publicly. Of course, they do let some of the real nuts slip through once in awhile. Charlevoix is a beautiful place. Ernest Hemingway used to spend a lot of time near there. How ironic.

5. Well, they surely must be able to drum up a Repug Serial Killer.....
to take him on in the primary... After all, John has only got one notch on his belt!

(ok... sort of kidding, but I do believe he was involved, at least in the cover-up)

6. Ramsey is part of the MIGOP internal struggle
Betsy De Vos is going for total neocon control of the Michigan Republicans. Bringing in a high-profile neocon like John Ramsey is meant to whip the state media into line for a final push against the paleocons -- like they did with Reagan in 1980 and Schwarzenegger in 2003.

Martin

P.S.: There may be a Socialist candidate running in that area. Who knows?
