I can't get the new Air America Station!
:( Any other Twincitians experiencing issues?

I bought a highpowered am radio for AA, and now I can't get a signal. GRR!

1. I hear hissing and static with the occasional
murmurings of which I assume are human voices. This saddens me.

2. I'm having the same problem with 1530 AM.
Although it's not quite as bad as the reception you describe. I could hear Ed Schultz's voice, at least well enough to comprehend what he was saying, anyway. A quick visit to the High Ground Radio website (I think they're now calling the network Straight Talk Radio or something, but they've kept the original domain name) failed to turn up any new information.

They're supposed to be simulcasting from 1530 and 740 AM. I used to occasionally tune in to 740 when it was "Irrelevant Radio" (for as long as my blood pressure could stand it) so I could find out what they were up to. I have to say that their signal was much stronger. Now 740 AM is virtually inaudible. I wonder what the hell is going on. They must know about this. I'm actually beginning to wonder about dirty tricks and the like by Starboard Network. Those people are BAD NEWS; they're as reactionary as the people that own "1280 AM 'The Fascist' ". And they still own one of those stations: 1530, I think.

4. I am having some luck with 1530 this morning.
I don't know if my reception is contingent upon the weather, but the hissing is not currently obstructing the signal. I have not been able to tune in 740 at all. I hope they will eventually be able to pump up their transmitters cuz this is frustrating.

7. I can't get 1530 at all...
but do receive 740 with a fair amount of static. I live between the two cities, so I expected to get a decent signal from at least one of the stations.

8. 740 comes through in St. Paul, but very scratchy
I can barely stand to listen to it because of all the background noise.

Seems like I'm always tuning in during the Wendy Wylde show, which is okay but doesn't do much for me.

9. I believe 740 is a daytime-only station

And 1530 powers down to an almost inaduble 10 watts at night.

Best bet is during the day.

I do hear that 1530 is looking to move to Hopkins and will up the wattage.

From Northpine.com:

-Shakopee-

1530 KSMM Starboard Broadcasting (LMA to Minnesota Production Network) 8.6kW/10W U3 (D) 380W-PSRA (Application to move to Hopkins with 9kW/900W U3)
News/Talk AP "Straight Talk Radio" (simulcast with WMIN/740 Hudson)
AP All News Radio, A Franken 11a-2p, E Schultz 2-5p

-Hudson-

740 WMIN Gregory Borgen (LMA to Minnesota Production Network) 850W D3 (D) (CP 1.1kW D3, TL Hudson)
News/Talk AP "Straight Talk Radio" (simulcast with KSMM/1530 Shakopee)
AP All News Radio, A Franken 11a-2p, E Schultz 2-5p

Northpine is usually pretty accurate.

10. Yes, I'm pretty sure that's still the case.
When it was (ugh) "Irrelevant Radio", it was on the air only in the daytime. That was the reason Starboard Network (aka Opus Dei, as far as I'm concerned) bought WMIN 1330.

In the last day or so, the 1530 station has a much clearer signal, especially in the Eden Prairie area of the metro.

11. Keep in mind
AM signals are strange. Atmospheric conditions and weather make a big difference, especially with weaker signals.

12. 740 broadcasts from Hudson Wi., and 1530, from Shakopee...
....and they're not exactly 50,000 watt clear channel neighbors to the north.
i can usually pick up 740 in the st. paul/roseville portion of my commute, then drive through a very scratchy area; then can pick up 1530 for the bloomington portion of the commute.
it's an inconvenience but it's better than listening to Laura INgraham or one of the right-wing God channels.
(is there an anti-laural INgraham station anywhere? She seems like Ann Coulter's mean little sister. I swear, i heard her say recently, in response to one guest's criticism of some Dem, "What a retard." other commentary is about ont the same level....

:puke:

"Wadda retard" ;)

I accidentally tuned in myself when looking for AAR. And, they dare call that thoughtful commentary? *sheesh*

16. don't give up!
1530 broadcasts from Shakopee, and I live 30 miles north of the cities. The signal barely reaches me, so I bought that AM superadio and a AM antenna to get rid of most hissing. It works only good enough if I position it all just right. I would DIE without it now.

17. While trying to "fine tune" 1530,
I thought I had found a clear signal. I was listening for a couple of minutes when I realized that I was listening to RUSH. I thought it was Al doing his impersonation. Ha. I guess it is a true testament to Al's talent, when I mistook the creepy real thing for Al.
