Sen. Norm Coleman said Wednesday he would support efforts to prevent filibusters of federal judges, putting him in the camp of Republican leaders on the controversial plan.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., has threatened the so-called "nuclear option," which would let the majority in the 100-member Senate stop a filibuster with 51 votes rather than the current 60. ...

2. Aside from The Chimperor himself and his immediate circle of asshats,
Normie Coleman is the elected official I loathe the most. The fact that he holds Paul Wellstone's Senate seat constitues extremely persuasive evidence that either there is no god at all, or that he/she/it has a really sick sense of humor.

5. Is it looking like the repugs are going to get this through?
How many votes do they need? I can't imagine a dem would vote for it, and I don't think Jeffords will.

7. Yes, if they decide to do it.
While it takes 60 votes to stop a filibuster, it only takes 51 to change the senate rules, including the one that says it takes 60 votes to stop a filibuster... and you can't filibuster rules changes, because they aren't laws or potential laws.

9. So we need 51 votes.

There are what like 45 democrats. Jeffords should be a no. So should Chaffee. I don't know if McCain will go for it. Are there any others?

11. I could see some Northeastern Repubs voting against it
Especially Chafee, and hopefully Collins, Snowe, Specter, and perhaps Gregg and Sununu. If they want to keep their jobs it might be helpful for them to vote against this insane thing.

6. You think Norm is a bigger brown noser than Santorum?
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 10:21 PM by Cell Whitman
Maybe Norm only knows him as 'Frist the Fascist' and missed the 'Frist the Cat Killer' part.

...thankfully Herman here got away from Frist thanks to some fast thinking on his part.

8. Just give him time.
He is extremely ambitious and completely unprincipled. There's no ass he won't kiss to advance his political career.

10. Norm Coleman falls in line with his Fascist masters.
That doesn't surprise me.
Coleman is a stale tuna sandwich. He'll get his one day. Sell outs always do.

12. Majority isn't good enough, they have to win.
Reminds me of kids playing outside w/o adult supervision.

Didn't you just HATE it when kids would play and ALWAYS there was that one guy who just HAD to change the rules mid-game because he couldn't stand to lose?

The repubs - including Coleman - those are THOSE guys.

14. Normie is going to vote FOR torture.(Alberto Gonzales)
We could focus the protest on his FOR TORTURE vote.
