Jackson Denounces Statehouse Rant That Drove Girl to Tears

MORRISTOWN, May 20, 2005 – 25th District Assembly candidate Thom Jackson expressed outrage at Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll’s treatment of Statehouse visitors on Monday and his refusal to own up to his actions. Carroll shocked onlookers in Statehouse hallways by bringing a critically-ill 8th-grade girl to tears – and now he is trying to blame the media instead of taking responsibility.

Carroll coldly dashed the hopes of fourteen-year-old Emily Greatrex, telling her that she would not live to see a cure for her potentially fatal juvenile diabetes. Additional accounts suggest this incident was not the only time that day when Carroll let ideology trump civility.

1. What a fucking asshole....
:wtf: If I were Emily's father, Carroll would still be picking his teeth up off the floor. Any cold blooded, opportunistic, inhuman son of a bitch like that needs to get his ass kicked. :grr: OH, that pisses me off. Who does this ass clown think he is? Somebody had better set that MF right. :grr: He doesn't deserve the air he breathes! ARGHHHHHHH!

2. What did he say that was so terrible?
Looks to me like her parents didn't prepare her for the real world and certainly not the world of public advocacy. GET OVER IT!!!

4. That she would not live to see a cure

That is the horrible thing he said! Especially to someone who is only 14! Do you really not see that? Would you really go up to someone that age and say that to her? And if she reacted, you would blame her parents for not preparing her the real world, as opposed to your own rudeness?
I thought Repukes liked to insulate their children from the reality of the world. That is why they try to censor everything on tv and home school their offspring. I guess they have different rules for everyone else's children.

7. Actually, I believe it was she who "went up to him"...
...obviously I wasn't there but I do know Asm. Carroll. He's pretty much of a straight shooter who cuts right to the point.

Emily Greatrex's father is an attorney, and apparently the founder of a juvenile diabetes foundation. Don't you think that he should have done his homework before sending his 14 year old daughter over to confront someone with Carroll's reputation for directness, and who apparently is not sold on the issue of stem cell research.

I believe that any scientific research that can help sick people is a good idea. However we live in a country that arrests and jails people for growing marijuana, an inexpensive botanical which can be grown at home, and has proven medicinal properties. This prohibition I am convinced, has one main purpose; to appease Big Pharma. Since Bayer Health Care is now getting involved with GW Pharmaceuticals and cannibinoid research, I think my theory bears out. The Partnership For A Drug Free America's biggest financial supporters are ALL huge pharmaceutical corporations.

Oddly enough, Michael Patrick Carroll is a Republican thoughtful enough to support medical marijuana for sick people. I would be very interested to know what his opponent Thom Jackson's position on this issue is. Did the Greatrex's EVER contact Asm. Carroll's office for an appointment to discuss the issue privately before this incident? Sounds to me like they ambushed him. Don't get me wrong, there is a place for ambush politics, but it's always better to go in through the front door first. Hopefully Emily learned a valuable lesson, but with the tears and all I'd say she ain't ready for political activism.

I don't know enough about how the confrontation in the Statehouse went down to condemn Carroll, but I do know enough to criticize her father's judgement. I sure wouldn't retain him to defend me in court.

Public advocacy can be a messy business. Maybe Emily should wait a few years. Cheryl Miller waited her whole life for a change in the draconian laws against marijuana, and Democrat and Republican alike let her down. Yet we struggle on toward the light.

And I would say Michael Patrick Carroll "ain't" ready to call himself a human being! "Straight shooter who cuts right to the point", my butt!
