Ben Konop to run for Lucas County Commissioner
The Toledo Blade this morning has a story that Ben Konop is going to run for Lucas County Commissioner. In 2004, Ben ran for Congress in OH-04 against Mike Oxley. Konop got the highest vote percentage of any House challenger in Ohio from either Party. With Oxley's recent resignation, some had hoped Konop would run for the House again. Konop has a website at http://benkonop.com">http://benkonop.com

Konop plans to challenge Thurber for commissioner
Toledo lawyer and former congressional candidate Ben Konop plans to challenge Lucas County Commissioner Maggie Thurber next year.

"Mr. Konop, a Democrat who lost a longshot bid to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Oxley in Ohio's 4th District last year, will launch a campaign committee today for the 2006 commissioner's race. He previewed his entry yesterday with a call to modernize the county's struggling economy and a shot at Ms. Thurber, a Republican who faces questions about her alleged role in a money-laundering case involving former Maumee coin dealer Tom Noe. A federal affidavit named Ms. Thurber and 12 others as "conduits" who illegally passed money from Mr. Noe to President Bush's re-election campaign.

Mr. Konop said there is a "total lack of vision from about where the community needs to go economically. … Obviously, she's been very concerned with her legal troubles, and I think that's what's been occupying the bulk of her time."
