Tony Hall to endorse Obama in ad on Christian radio stations

COLUMBUS — Former Dayton-area Congressman Tony Hall will endorse fellow Democrat Barack Obama for president in an ad to be aired on Ohio Christian radio stations starting Monday, Sept. 22.

While a Democrat endorsing another Democrat is not unusual, Hall's action is part of a broader effort by Democrats this year to draw support from religious voters who have been crucial to Republicans' success.

"The Republicans would have us all believe that if you're not a Republican, you can't know God," Hall, who made fighting hunger in the U.S. and globally the focus of his congressional career, said in a telephone interview on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Hall made the ad for the Matthew 25 Network, a political action committee organized "to mobilize Catholic, Evangelical and diverse Christian voices for a new Christian witness in politics."

Who knew? God is not a Republican. Once again, Tony Hall shows what a class act he is. The significance of Matthew 25 is Christ's words: Whatever you do to the least of these, you do to me. Precisely the message that Christians need to be reminded of as the economy tanks. I just wonder if anybody will be listening.

1. We'll take it!
I'm certainly no fan of Tony Hall, but I appreciate any & all efforts to keep McAnus from stealing Ohio, and thereby the country.

2. May I ask why?
We need more people like Tony Hall in politics. I would take him back in a heartbeat in the 3rd District over Mike Turner.

3. Mixing of politics & religion
Not to mention his pro-life stance.

On balance, he's a good guy and I would choose him in a heartbeat over any 'pug, but I've got a beef or two with him. I did say that I'm glad he's making that ad for Barack Obama, but I'm also glad that he's doing it as a private citizen and not as a member of Congress.
