Maybe Gov. Taft should stay in office.
I was privy to a conversation today between a group of Repukes. The man leading the conversation is a big-deal Repuke -- the kind of guy who has had lunch with Noe at Morton's Steak House in Columbus and calls Taft "Bob" and his wife "Hope." He's also one of the biggest land owners in Ross Co.

Anyway -- he's telling these other people that "Bob" will single-handedly deliver the State of Ohio to the Dems in the next election. He states that the Dems will have enough ammunition (ethics, honesty, bad investments) to win big next year. This guy WANTS Taft to resign; he wants him out of public office and out of the spot light. He's even hoping we Dems will impeach him. (This is what he and his friends discussed at last week's Repuke luncheon in Chillicothe.)

Relying on the public's short memory, he thinks they can rebuild the Repuke party and elect one of their own as the next governor, with Taft out of the way.

Whaddaya think?

1. Possible...unless the guilt and shame can be seen as on many
'pubs across Ohio. It is there. If another scandal or two can be brought to light the party will loose furthur ground.

Frankly they've f***ed the state to the point where I only come back for weddings and funerals. It would be nice for things to turn about.

2. Let a dumb Californian who knows nothing about Ohio ask some questions
OK, I do know a thing or two, like the GOP in Ohio is going to hell in a hand basket. Taft looks more like Harding. The fat cat Republican in this discussion is whistling past the graveyard. He'd be on better ground if the Ohio GOP's problems where really just Taft's personal problems, but it looks deeper than that.

Do the Democrats have any alternative? What, besides Paul Hackett, do they have going for them? There's a governor's race and a US Senate race in 2006. Who is going to run for each? What are the Democrats' liabilities?

4. For the Governor's race

The Democrats have a very strong candidate in Ted Strickland, right now he has to be the favorite in this race. As for US Senate, there are 2 candidates who are considering, Congressman Tim Ryan and everyone's darling Paul Hackett. I think both would be great candidates against Dewine.

8. We need candidates for Auditor & SOS to control redistricting
We have to win two out of three of those offices plus the governor to control redistricting for federal districts. We could redistrict Ohio so that Columbus can elect a Democrat to US Congress. Maybe Dayton, too.

I have not heard of any candidates for Secretary of State or Auditor.

3. I posted my thoughts on this thread about
the additional revelations on Fri and the serendipitous announcement of a bipartisan effort to impeach...
