Singel Wants to Run for Senate or Lt. Governor
www.pennlive.com - look under Harrisburg Patriot-News.

Mark Singel has left the firm he was working for, to set himself up to run for Lt. Governor with Rendell or for U.S. Senate.

Singel never impressed me, either as an office-holder or as a campaigner. I also was uncomfortable with some his lobbying clients. But we do need to replace Catherine Knoll as Lt. Governor because the Lt. Governor is "only one cheesesteak away from the Governor's Office."

I hope for the U.S. Senate race that the Dems can agree upon one strong candidate (other than Singel) - so that the money can be saved to attack Santorum.

PLEASE GOD! NOT SANTORUM V. SINGEL! We want to get rid of that little bastard, not give him a free ride!

BTW, you've made me realize just how much I miss a good old Philly cheesesteak. Now I know what I'm going to make for dinner one night this weekend! Thanks much :bounce:  !

2. What's Mark Singel's history/background?
I remember his name but nothing else about him. That's probably not a good sign if he plans on taking on ol' Ricky for the Senate. We need state-wide name recognition and lots of money from the Dem candidate for the Senate race in 06.

3. Singel vs. Casey
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 02:51 PM by JPZenger
You are correct that Singel's stint as acting governor was not memorable.

Singel always struck me as someone who was connected into some shady power brokers. For example, he was hired by the Hershey Trust to help sell Hershey Foods. The people from the Trust who hired him for that were later removed, at the insistence of a judge.

Singel also was hired to help try to get millions of dollars of State tax money to fund a racetrack for rich people to drive their Porsches around in circles at high speeds. That racetrack is proposed a couple thousand feet from the Appalachian Trail in the Poconos.

Singel is currently being sued by his employer for trying to steal company files and clients, in violation of his contract. He wants to take clients with him to a new firm he is founding.

In comparison, Bob Casey always struck me as a clean politician who does try to do what he thinks is right. One small example is that he tried to make the big State pension funds unveil how they chose their financial advisors and to open up the pension funds to audits by his office. He had to go to court on this matter as auditor general. Anyone who has followed the news in Philadelphia knows that there is a connection between political contributions and financial advisors receiving contracts.

As much as I disagree with Casey on abortion, it does show that he is a man of principle. It is much easier for a Democratic politician to be pro-choice or to shut up on the issue.

I think I'd like to see Jack Wagner as Lt. Governor in Rendell's next term.
