Hart: Fury over photos overstated
By: Amanda Gillooly - Times Staff 05/14/2004
An area lawmaker says the outrage some of her colleagues in the House and Senate have expressed over unreleased photographs of Iraqi detainees is exaggerated.
"I think the hand-wringing over this is way overdone," U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart, R-4, Bradford Woods, said Thursday evening.
Hart was among a host of politicians to attend a lawmakers-only viewing in the Capitol on Wednesday of hundreds of photographs depicting abuse of Iraqi detainees by U.S. military personnel.
Some lawmakers had said Wednesday that the abuse included torture, humiliation and forced sex beyond what was seen by the public. She said lawmakers squeezed into the room, silently watching the photos as they appeared on a projection screen.
Here's the rest of the story:

"It wasn't, in my opinion, more damaging or frightening that what I've seen before," she said. "I think some of my colleagues are using this as political fodder."
Many of the same military personnel were shown in the pictures, which showed injuries, simulated sex acts and other poses she described as being "kind of like hazing."

This is sickening...basically all she's doing is mimicking Repub talking points like some well trained parrot...
