3. Nine so far and
they're coming three groups: two from Houston Oil Patch Democrats, two from Houston Veterans for Peace, and five from various Wes Clark groups; two from WesPAC Securing America and one each from Clark 2008, United for Clark and Texans for Clark.

Of course, I've also seen notices on LOTS of websites.

And damn, I can't make it. My daughter works til 5 and won't be here to pick up my grandson til 5:20pm, leaving not enough time to attempt the Galleria and parking, this time of year.

BTW, the Houston Veterans for Peace are going to try to present Cheney with a letter, which of course, they expect will not be accepted and they will rally at Westheimer and Post Oak, hopefully in time to hit the 6pm news, with their rejected letter.

I'll check the e-mail and post the info, in case anyone wants to gather with them.

4. The letter to Cheney
I'm one of the founders of Oil Patch Democrats (people who work for oil and gas related companies) and a large percentage of the membership is made up of veterans, most VietNam, but many before and after too and many, many of them are also members of Houston Veterans for Peace.

The following is what I recieved from the president of OPD, who is also a member of Veterans for Peace.........

I am meeting up with the VFP folks at 5:30 PM Monday to try
and deliver our letter, but will be out on the South Post
Oak side as soon as we've had our letter rejected. Will be
wearing an aqua T-shirt with VETERANS FOR PEACE on the
front. Say Hi!

Peace, John

Vice President Richard B. Cheney

The White House

Washington, D.C.

December 5, 2005

Dear Vice President Cheney:

We, the Veterans For Peace, Houston, Texas Chapter #12, represent tens of thousands of Veterans in 85 cities who denounce your usurping of the legitimate role of our military. Instead of defending the people of the United States from attack, you have used our military as a tool to further your personal desires for world domination and to direct world oil supplies through Halliburton and a cabal of your corporate friends.

We believe you have inflicted and continue to inflict a grave injustice on our fellow American servicemen and women currently in Iraq. With over 2,100 American troops killed and tens of thousands who will live out their lives with horrific physical and mental wounds from your ill conceived, immoral and completely unjustified preemptive attack on a sovereign nation, it is time to change our course in Iraq.

We also condemn your advocacy for the uses of torture against those you deem our “enemy”. This unprecedented human rights violation dishonors all uniformed persons who have ever served our country and poses a grave threat to those serving now who may fall into the hands of opposing forces and receive reciprocal treatment. This does not represent the best values of American democracy.

Tonight’s fundraiser for Rep. Tom DeLay, presently under indictment and facing a continuing investigation for his criminal activities, can only be seen as a gathering of the morally bankrupt to further their goals of enriching themselves at the price of our military men and women’s lives.

Sincerely yours,

Veterans For Peace-Houston, Chapter # 12.
