Is Texas Turning Blue?
Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 10:15 AM by BamaLefty
TX residents disaprove of their "favorite son." Bu$h gets bad marks everywhere!

3. I'm hearing from a lot of Republicans who are disgusted
with their party. Whether that translates into votes depends on if we have principled Democratic candidates that they can support.

5. I suspect Texas will still go red in 2008
but it may not be the walk for Republicans that it was in 2000 and 2004. I think the Republican campaign may have to put an ad or two or the air in Texas just to shore it up. In the end I think Texas still goes red by about 10 points in 2008. 2012, with Bush out of the White House, could really put Texas in play.

6. A 10 Point Loss Wouldn't Be That Painful
But losing by 25% in the nation's 2nd most populated state really hurts us in the popular vote as well as the EC.

7. Don't write us off
The Beltway Democratic elite have been writing us off for a quarter-century. They wrote us off in 1980 even though Carter-Mondale carried the state in 1976, and it's been that way ever since. All it did was give the Bushites a stronger and stronger power-base here. That result was inevitable.

Instead of writing us off, Democrats in other states ought to be helping us. Heaven knows we've helped them plenty. Beltway Democrats gladly take the proceeds of the Texas Democratic ATM. Hmmm, if they didn't write us off, they might not be able to count on our money so easily. Our people just might find out that if they kept their money here instead of sending it to every Beltway Democratic PAC known, the state might actually be blue after all.

Tell you what, here's a challenge. Instead of counting us out for 2006 and 2008, why don't you send your political donations in 2006 and 2008 to Texas Democratic campaigns, urge your friends to do the same, and recruit a vanload to come campaign for Democrats here. A whole lot of us grassroots Texas Democrats are planning on shocking the world in the next elections. Be a part of it.

8. Now that's what I'm talking about...
I'm running for precinct chair in my North Dallas precinct, and I'm trying to get our local Democrats motivated for 2006. I'll probably try to bring them all in for a Sunday lunch or something - our precinct includes a nice little Chinese buffet-style restaurant. (Woo-hoo!)
