There is currently a thread in LBN about a FL teen who is suing his school district because when he twice refused (respectfully) to stand for the pledge, he was ridiculed by his teacher. FL apparently has a law that makes pledging mandatory for school kids unless they have a written exemption from their parents.
Original ThreadThis is similar to the law that we have here in TX since 2003, requiring school kids to say the pledges to the US and TX flags every day, plus participate in a minute of silence, unless the school has a parental note of exemption on file.
So, does anyone here know of a TX public school student challenging this law? As I wrote in response to that thread, lawmakers damn well know that the permission clause is "meant to intimidate youths who are trying to think for themselves, often against the mores of their parents."
