The Democratic bone head political play of the week.
Dan Patrick, the houston loud mouth, right wing, wing nut, who trampled Moldy Joe Nixon for State Senator, has been allowed to return to his radio station on 700am because the Democratic challenger agreed to let him.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/politics/3737032.html

"Broadcaster and Republican state Senate nominee Dan Patrick returns to the Houston airwaves today after his general election opponent signed a waiver freeing him from the federal requirement to give challengers equal airtime."

And we wonder why we don't win?

Now we have this right wing idiot spewing anything he wants all the way through the election. And all our candidate had to do was say NO.

Anyone know who Michael Kubosh is?

1. Wow. That was boneheaded. Does Kubosh have the authority to waive federal
election and broadcast laws?

2. Kubosh is a conservative independent
More from the article. How nice of Patrick to promise he won't spend "a lot of time talking about his candidacy on-air." And Kubosh was trying to be a nice guy or what exactly? Oh. He considers himself a conservative independent? But, he's our democratic candidate? Wonderful.:

"They realize it's a 73 percent Republican district," Patrick said. "What you are dealing with is two good people who realize there is no sense in keeping me from making a living. I'm the only one during the (primary) campaign who had to give up his job."

Patrick will only host his show Monday through Thursday. And he says he won't spend a lot of time talking about his candidacy on air.

"The campaigning is over," he said. "I'm just going to go back to being a talk-show host, and that includes talking about issues from Iraq to Austin."

Patrick has told state senators that he will be respectful between now and the end of this year by acknowledging he is not a senator yet. He's also assured senators that private conversations will remain private.

Kubosh, who was unopposed in the Democratic primary, approached Patrick about how he could help the radio personality get back on air.

"I never ran for Senate to keep Dan Patrick off the air," Kubosh said, noting that he decided to run last summer, long before Patrick announced his intentions.

Kubosh, a bail bondsman, considers himself a conservative independent. He doesn't see his signing of the waiver as a concession to Patrick.

"I'm still running," he said. "I'd still like to be senator. I feel confident that him being on the air won't be a threat to me personally."

3. I'm sure Patrick won't spend much time talking about his campaign. Perry's
campaign and DeLay's campaign will be the focus of his program. What steps do we need to take to enforce the federal regulations which Kubosh is too stupid to enforce?

4. Kubosh. A case study on why our party needs to recruit candidates.
Who the hell is this guy? And why did he run if he was going to be a wimp?

I sure as hell hope he doesnt ask for any money, time or energy.

5. The only good news is that moderate Republicans
I've talked to in SD7 despise Dan Patrick and from what I hear, like what they've seen from Kubosh. The bad news is that progressive Democrats aren't similarly impressed. We will vote for him, but not work for him.

6. Lyn do you have the record when
this guy first showed up at WHDC an announced he was running? I'm wondering just how many of the primary Republicans had announced, before he graced us with his announcement.

He says, "Kubosh said, noting that he decided to run last summer, long before Patrick announced his intentions." BUT he didn't say what party he had planned to run in or do we even know when he decided. Easy enough to go back now and rewrite what was only in his own mind. Plus, I've heard people talking about Patrick running, when Lindsey hadn't yet announced he was stepping down.

I'm suspecting that Kubosh didn't want to enter a Republican race, as he saw it filling up. What was it, 5-way, with all the Republicans well known names and previous or current office holders? So, I'm thinking he decided, with no name, to file as a Dem and narrow his field, thus picking up the Dem vote, along with the Patrick-haters.

We need to get his primary record.

8. Then it may have been November?
I recall seeing him at the holiday party, but it seems to me he had been introduced before. It must have been November. I know it wasn't as early as September and I recall I wasn't at the October meeting, because we had the baby here and our son had gone back to Michigan to pack his townhouse, so we were without a sitter.

But my point was, I'm thinking maybe he entered the Dem primary, assuming he'd advance to the general by default.

I'm going to the happy hour tomorrow night, that the Harris County Democratic Lawyers' Association is having, which is to meet and greet the Democratic candidates for all offices. It will be interesting to see if he, the bail bondsman/candidate and his partner/attorney brother are there.

9. Lisa and I will be at the Progressive Forum to hear Seymour Hersch
tomorrow so we won't make it to the meet and greet. Unfortunate timing.

10. We'll be doing a double........
I had planned on going to see Hersh, but now Wes Clark is scheduled in tomorrow for two events, the first starting at 6:30pm, so we're going to get to the lawyers' happy hour as soon as it starts at 5:30pm and then probably get to the Clark dinner by the skin of our teeth, at 6:30pm, which as these things run, will probably be before Wes. Then the dessert is at Molly Gochman's and he'll be there until around 10pm.

I do have an autographed copy of Chain of Command, though, so that will have to suffice. Aren't these speaker's forums terrific? I sat with Randall Morton at the Gammage/Clark luncheon in January and he has lots of great ideas ahead.
