Did you have a Texas Guaranteed Student Loan?
If so, you MUST go to this site, because your name & SSN might have been "lost." I paid off my TGSL over FIFTEEN YEARS AGO & my information was among that which was "lost." To say that I am pissed is the understatement of the year.

www.tgslc.org/resources/customerdata.cfm

With all the "losses" of private personal data, I would love to hear what David Van Os will do to corporations that are sloppy & "lose" data like this. I put "lose" in quotes because this is happening so often, I'm beginning to suspect there is some collusion going on between the credit reporting bureaus (who get to sell you their "monitoring services") & the companies that "lose" your data which makes you call the credit bureaus to put fraud alerts on your account. :grr:

1. SCREAM !!!
I called the 800 number and the first thing they asked for was my social security number. I said I didn’t want to give that information and the lady said, “trust me”. I did NOT scream at the poor lady on the other end of the phone line, but I sure wanted to. Anyway, she said that I am OK, but how do I know she is right?

2. How long ago was your loan taken out?
Mine was way back in the '80s & I know I paid it off by the early 90's. The question then is: Why are they hanging on to information on an account that's TWO DECADES OLD?????

I just went to the link and called the 800 number and it rang over 20 times without anyone picking up. *sigh*

5. Really?
They picked right up when I called this morning about 8. Maybe they got tired of being yelled at. I know I went :nuke: when I was told my information was "lost." I tried not to take it out on the poor kid who answered my call, but dammit, there should be some penalty for these companies to keep them from playing fast & loose with our personal, PRIVATE data!

7. Update
I called today and my name is on the list.
After some questioning about how this was allowed to happen, I was told that they were using a third party contractor (Oh the surprise of our government using private contractors), anyway, the third party contractor is Hummingbird
http://www.hummingbird.com/
TGSL says that it is THEIR fault this information came up missing.
Sooo...I guess the question is, who is Hummingbird?

8. Ditto
I just called and my name is on the list. The guy I talked to really tried to downplay the whole thing. :eyes:

9. What I would LOVE to know is
why were they screwing around with information from accounts that had been paid off & closed for over a decade? (well, at least in my case, at least 15 years)

To add to my :tinfoilhat: theory of collusion, I heard about 2 other instances of "lost" information this weekend, one from hotels.com & the other was from some credit card company, I think.

10. As far as I am concerned
They shouldn't still have that information and I agree.

11. IMO
since they were making money off my information by selling it (the only possible reason they could have for maintaining it, since the TGSL no longer appears on my credit report!), they should have to pay for a monitoring service on my credit report.
