Bush impeachment resolution KO'ed - My God, what have we done?
Hey, folks - ginbarn and I just got back from Ft. Worth a little while ago. Sorry it took me a while to check in.

Here's what I don't get about the TDP State Convention. We had a golden opportunity, thanks to the labors of Hadi Jawad and the Crawford Peace House, to pass a resolution calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush. Jawad et al gathered at least a thousand signatures to put that resolution on the floor.

And what happened? Texas Democratic delegates killed the resolution. It was close - it required a standing division of the house - but the resolution died anyway. Our one attempt to endorse the impeachment of Bush has been pissed away by compromisers in our midst.

What the hell happened? Were the atrocities in Iraq somehow not enough justification for an impeachment resolution? Abu Ghraib, Haditha, Fallujah, etc. somehow weren't "good enough?"

Don't get me wrong. For the most part, I'm jazzed about going to the convention (my first) and getting to serve as a delegate (again, a first for me). But I'm a bit disappointed that some Texas Democrats decided not to support our military by calling for the ouster of an incompetent and self-serving Commander-in-Chief.

1. The old-line party hacks are NOT DU members.
There is a running battle against those who want change and those who favor the old line. The old line won this weekend. But we're growing and they're in decline. Soon the party will be ours! Muahahahaha!

Anyway, I had no doubts that resolution would fail.

2. I wonder if this parallels the Richie/Maxey fight somehow?
Like I said, it was close - maybe not as close as the State Chair runoff, but pretty close.

3. It was my fault
After the party chair election was over the desire to get something to eat and then drink heavily took over, so I didn't stick it out to the bitter end.

5. I can't fault you
That four-hour process for choosing a new State Chair was little more than torture. I bugged out after the runoff vote and didn't return until Jawad's resolution was being considered.

6. But you got a new SDEC man
so you and everyone in your SD who worked so hard to elect him then left after the chair's race are forgiven;-)

4. Everyone was gone by then
I'm probably going to be in deep do do for calling the YDs from my SD a bunch of p#$%sies for leaving the convention after the vote for chair but many people who could have carried the vote were gone. They weren't going home either, they were going out to party.

7. In that case, your actions were justified
Why the hell would some of these people go to all the time and trouble to become a state delegate and then piss their votes away when they're needed the most?

Weed and seed, I tell ya...

8. I did go home. I felt guilty for not staying for the resolutions.
I had to cover childcare at the time I had bought my hotel room. Had I been able to do it over. I would have blown off Thursday night and stayed Saturday night. :(

9. I think the other resoltuion would have passed!
IMO the reason the first one didn't go through is because someone said there was another resolution that included CHENEY, and people were standing and speaking against because they didn't want to hand the presidency to Cheney.

We didn't finish all the resolutions because we didn't even get around to voting on the platform until nearly 9:00, and we wanted to go home. We ended up referring the rest of them back to the SDEC for discussion during the next meeting. And you can bet your last penny I'll fight like hell to pass it! If that's what we do, I mean. It'll be my first one and all. :P
