2. What happened to Tyler County?
I grew up in Woodville (the Tyler County seat). You still have to run as a Dem to win local elections up there.

I have LOTS of friends still there, one who's a county commissioner and works at the courthouse.

I'd be happy to contact folks in town to get a good turnout.

(Be gentle. My first reply on DU.)

4. DVO to TexasT
I am going to every county in Texas, period, all 254. So Tyler County will not be skipped.

However, when I gave the first list of 15 counties for a 3-day tour to my awesome scheduler-router Kris Graham, I made a mistake and overlooked Galveston County. Even though I will be doing a marathon filibuster in downtown Galveston at City Hall on Sunday-Monday, I still have to appear and speak at the Galveston County Courthouse at the north end of the island. Upon realizing I had overlooked that, I asked Kris to revise the tentative itinerary so as to add in the Galveston County Courthouse on Tuesday morning. This added a county to the list for the 3 days and would have required going to 6 counties on one of the days.

Kris is very good at planning the routes and schedules but 5 counties per day is the most we can do. I asked her to remove one county from the list on the 2d or 3d day to keep it at 15 for the 3 days. The removal of Tyler County was a purely routing and scheduling function by Kris, who is doing a marvelous volunteer job, detailed and intricate, in routing my courthouse-to-courthouse trips. Tyler County will definitely be part of the itinerary on another tour down the road between now and the election. I have friends in Woodville too and am very much looking forward to my visit there. Meanwhile, please feel free to join in at one of my stops at a neighboring county next week.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to comment. Let's take Texas back for the people.

DVO

8. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Howdy everyone.

David, when I looked at the revised schedule I could tell the route you were taking and could see that Woodville was out of the way.

Anyway, I'll be happy to meet you up there when you can go and introduce you around.

It's pretty easy to know the whole town when there's only 2500 people there!

11. I was in Jasper today (6/20)
I'm posting this here because I haven't posted enough to start my own thread yet.

I had to go to Jasper for a funeral today. (The past few days have been sucky, to say the least.)

We're driving back from the cemetary WAY out in the country, practically in Lousiana, on the way to my cousin's house back in town.

The thing I noticed most was the trees that had been uprooted because of Hurricane Rita: large oaks and pine trees pulled out of the ground just like dry corn stalks.

We're driving past this farm that has several large uprooted pecan trees and then I spot the sign by the driveway. It was terribly wind beaten, and only the center part of the sign remained, but it was still there: Kerry and Edwards in 2004.

David's going to kick a** there tomorrow! The people of East Texas are absolutely hungry for his message!

I'm sorry our paths didn't cross, David and Rachel, and I'm awfully sorry that my first visit there in eight years was because of a funeral.

12. Rejoining the caravan this morning in Orange
Yesterday was unsurpassed as far as barnstorming goes.

The second stop of the day in Chambers County we made time for lunch with the mayor and the county judge, Jimmy Sylvia -- a Democrat who switched to Republican six months ago (it's a local viability thing and would require more explanation than I can give at the moment). He introduced us to a friend of his son's who's going to Iraq next week (he was in Afghanistan on his first deployment). As we left, he said "I want you to win".

In Liberty County about twenty folks met us at the courthouse, and the same in Hardin County. Media both places included local newspaper reporter, photographer, and radio station. At the Jeff County courthouse John and Suzanne Stafford (local activists) had turned out the TV station, but we arrived about 15 minutes too late to get on (they got a call about someone bleeding somewhere). DVO had an on-air talk with Jack Pieper of KLVI -- a radio fixture in Bmt. for about thirty years. Quite an in-the-closet old liberal.

East Texas is ready to flip, y'all.

Lots of photos will turn up in a day or two.
