E-mail deletion policy in question (Houston)
HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston television station has been granted a temporary restraining order to prevent the Harris County Sheriff's Office from deleting any more e-mails.

KTRK-TV filed the lawsuit this afternoon and was granted the T-R-O. A hearing will be conducted on January 25th.

Recently, District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal was forced off the G-O-P ballot for re-election after dozens of his e-mails were disclosed. The e-mail file included pornography, racist humor, love notes to his secretary, and campaign-related files on a county-owned computer, a possible violation of election laws.

Sheriff Tommy Thomas outlined a new e-mail deletion retention policy in his agency earlier this month. The new policy requires all e-mails more than two weeks old to be deleted.
