Van de Putte says Bush ignores needs of Hispanic citizens in U.S.
Oh yea, this was a big thing and we should recognize our own Senator Van de Putte. Texas State Senator Leticia Van de Putte (D-TX), immediate past president of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), delivered the Spanish language response to the State of the Union.

A San Antonio Democrat on Monday chided President Bush before an international Spanish-speaking audience for vetoing children's health insurance and ignoring the needs of America's Hispanic citizens.

But state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, who was selected by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to deliver the Democratic party's nationally broadcast Spanish-language response immediately after Bush's State of the Union address Monday night, insisted beforehand that her message would be positive.

(snip)
"I wanted to keep it short and to the point, but also focus on the feeling of disappointment around the country and at the same time really touch on the fact that there is hope, that the future will be better and that Democrats will work to provide a better quality of life," she said.

Van de Putte hoped she would not sound "too Tex-Mex, since Spanish speakers in New York, Florida, California and Texas all have different accents and manners of speech."

Jump in and give her a good recommendation on YouTube if you have an account. The anti-immigrant racists are rearing their ugly heads in there.

She did a hell of a job. I certainly couldn't have done as well.
