TX-Sen: Cornyn Expects Hutchison to Resign This Fall
John Cornyn told reporters today that he expected Kay Bailey Hutchison to resign her Senate seat "sometime this fall," which would trigger a special election likely to be held in May 2010.

From the Houston Chronicle's Texas on the Potomac:

"We certainly can't afford to lose that seat," he said.

"My guess," he told Texas reporters at his Senate office today, is that Hutchison will resign "this fall sometime."
...

I can hardly wait for the movie to start.

3. Well we know its going to be a western
It's going to be a b-movie. Horrible directing and a huge budget for a b-movie. Not much plot, terrible acting, maudlin whiny music and in the end a very predictable result.

The only surprise will be whose side the hired thugs (read lobbyist) are working for? Those hired thugs have been working both sides for awhile now. Now they're going to have to take a stand. Will the rich evil bastard Boss James Leininger exhaust all his wealth propping up Perry?

The territorial/dictatorial Governor Perry is whipping up the flames of fear and talking tough. Perry has big delusions for Texas. He dreams of seceding from the union and starting his own country.

He's handing out favoritism contracts and appointments like they were candy. He's spending as much of the public's money buying his base as he can. And he's painting the Washington Senator as a woman who is weak. He's branded her as Bailout Barbie.

The Washington woman is trying to pose as the returning matriarch of the land. Returning to her long last Texas spread to set things right. To cast out the robber barons who have dug in at the Capitol. She's really only trying to replace his cast of robber barons with hers.

Senator KBH is branding Perry as too little too late Ricky. He's out of touch with the people of Texas. He's insane. Which he may actually be.

The state is not big enough for both of them.
:nopity:

In the end we find out that they are - brother and sister born of the same evil heart - money and power have corrupted them both. Or they were just born that way.

Oh like you have something better to do next spring, huh?

4. LOL! Yeah that sounds like primary season on the pub side!
I'm hoping for something Obama esque to happen on the Dem side. I know it's a 'somewhere over the rainbow dream' but hey, if I'm watching movies I kinda like a happy ending.

TX-Sen: Hutchison looking for right time to head home

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will run for governor. The original plan was for her to resign her seat early, head home and campaign. But the NRSC apparently convinced her to wait until later, lest her resignation trigger a Senate special election Democrats had a decent chance of pulling off.

Then the teabag parties happened, incumbent Gov. Rick Perry pandered to the secessionists, and a funny thing happened -- he became really popular with his state's rabid Right. Numbers that had been in the gutter last year suddenly started looking pretty damn good. In fact, the latest Ras poll of the Texas primary has Perry leading 42-38.

Perry's people, for their part, have been aggressively shopping their own internal numbers showing Hutchison up 45-39. They clearly don't want to panic her and have her come home any sooner. But her increasingly tenuous position hasn't escaped Hutchison's notice, and she's realizing that she can't unilaterally leave Texas to Perry while she sits in a useless minority in DC. So the question isn't if she's coming back home, but when.
