About 60 citizens attended a town hall meeting at the University of Houston Clear Lake sponsored by the Film and History Club. Elected officials on the panel included Representative John Davis of Harris County and Representative Larry Taylor of Galveston.
Senator Mike Jackson was a no show. Last month he met with the business community for a legislative update but couldn't make time to meet with his constituents.
Also on the panel were two local activist, Sherrie Matula, former CCISD school board member and education activist, and John Cobarruvias President of Homeowners Against Deficient Dwellings Texas a local consumer activist.
Discussions included comments on school vouchers with support for a pilot program being voiced by Davis and Taylor. Sherrie Matula was greeted with enthusiatic applause when she stated that vouchers has never improved education and should not be considered in this years session.
Other applause came when consumer activist John Cobarruvias suggested that the Insurance Commissioner should resign due to the failure of insurance reform.
Members of the audience were also very supportive of the statements made by the Representatives in support of paper trails for all electronic voting.
The Legislation Session begins January 11th and will run through May.
